Knockdown of lncRNA XIST prevents the epithelial-mesenchymal transition of TGF-β2-induced human lens epithelial cells via miR-124/Slug axis

    XUE JIANG1,2, HONG ZHANG1,2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 785-794, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.016167

Abstract Posterior capsular opacification (PCO) is linked to the pathological process of lens epithelial cells, which includes proliferation, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Our goal was to investigate whether long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) XIST contributes to EMT via targeting miR-124/Slug axis in TGF-β2-induced SRA01/04 cells. EMT was induced by stimulating SRA01/04 cells with 10 ng/mL TGF-β2 for 24 h, and PCO microenvironment was simulated. The expressions levels of lncRNA XIST, miR-124, and Slug were measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and western blot. The role and mechanism of lncRNA XIST in promoting EMT of TGF-β2-treated SRA01/04 cells were investigated by… More >

    MENGQIU CHENG1,2, WEI CAO2, GUODONG CAO1, XIN XU1,2,*, BO CHEN1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.1, pp. 97-109, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.015608

Abstract Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common cancer worldwide. Although emerging evidence indicates that autophagy-related long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays an important role in the progression of GC, the prognosis of GC based on autophagy is still deficient. The Cancer Genome of Atlas stomach adenocarcinoma (TCGA-STAD) dataset was downloaded and separated into a training set and a testing set randomly. Then, 24 autophagy-related lncRNAs were found strongly associated with the survival of the TCGA-STAD dataset. 11 lncRNAs were selected to build the risk score model through the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression. Every patient got… More >

    Ruoyu Liu1,#, Yuhao Hu1,#, Jing Xu2, Aiting Cai1, Anqi Wu1, Lin Chen3, Weihua Cai3, Deping Dong4, Henggui Xu5,*, Feng Wang1,*

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.3, pp. 303-320, 2021, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2021.018514

Abstract Cancers are diseases with a high mortality rate worldwide. In order to better diagnose and improve the survival rate, many studies have been conducted. In recent years, the role of non-coding RNAs in cancers has been confirmed, and circular RNAs (circRNAs) have attracted much attention. CircRNAs are involved in the occurrence and development of cancers with high stability. Experiments have shown that they can exist stably in peripheral blood. Therefore, the expression of circulating circRNAs can be detected to help diagnose cancers and reflect tumor progression. In this review, we summarized the role of circulating circRNAs in cancers and discussed… More >

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.3, pp. 373-392, 2021, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2021.017786

Abstract Breast cancer (BC) is one of the leading causes of death in women worldwide. A major challenge in BC is chemoresistance, which is often modulated by epigenetic regulators such as long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). Because these regulator lncRNAs may play diverse roles, determining their specific pathways and/or functions is crucial to identify possible biomarkers and/or therapeutic targets for BC. In this study, we used gene expression microarrays in order to identify lncRNAs related to the BC biology. We found, among six differentially expressed (DE) lncRNAs, that the expression of lnc-ERP44-3:6 was consistently down-regulated in all breast tumor tissues compared to… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.2, pp. 539-555, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.019064

Abstract This paper proposes an enhancement of an automatic text recognition system for extracting information from the front side of the Vietnamese citizen identity (CID) card. First, we apply Mask-RCNN to segment and align the CID card from the background. Next, we present two approaches to detect the CID card’s text lines using traditional image processing techniques compared to the EAST detector. Finally, we introduce a new end-to-end Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (CRNN) model based on a combination of Connectionist Temporal Classification (CTC) and attention mechanism for Vietnamese text recognition by jointly train the CTC and attention objective functions together. Aneuploidy: An opportunity within single-cell RNA sequencing analysis

    JOE R. DELANEY*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.5, pp. 1167-1170, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.017296

Abstract Single-cell sequencing data has transformed the understanding of biological heterogeneity. While many flavors of single-cell sequencing have been developed, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) is currently the most prolific form in published literature. Bioinformatic analysis of differential biology within the population of cells studied relies on inferences and grouping of cells due to the spotty nature of data within individual cell scRNA-seq gene counts. One biologically relevant variable is readily inferred from scRNA-seq gene count tables regardless of individual gene representation within single cells: aneuploidy. Since hundreds of genes are present on chromosome arms, high-quality inferences of aneuploidy can be made… More >
