    Yuchen Zhou1, Hongtao Huo1, Zhiwen Hou1, Lingbin Bu1, Yifan Wang1, Jingyi Mao1, Xiaojun Lv2, Fanliang Bu1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 537-563, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.044895

Abstract Graph Convolutional Neural Networks (GCNs) have been widely used in various fields due to their powerful capabilities in processing graph-structured data. However, GCNs encounter significant challenges when applied to scale-free graphs with power-law distributions, resulting in substantial distortions. Moreover, most of the existing GCN models are shallow structures, which restricts their ability to capture dependencies among distant nodes and more refined high-order node features in scale-free graphs with hierarchical structures. To more broadly and precisely apply GCNs to real-world graphs exhibiting scale-free or hierarchical structures and utilize multi-level aggregation of GCNs for capturing high-level information in local representations, we propose… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 187-224, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.031388

Abstract Financial time series prediction, whether for classification or regression, has been a heated research topic over the last decade. While traditional machine learning algorithms have experienced mediocre results, deep learning has largely contributed to the elevation of the prediction performance. Currently, the most up-to-date review of advanced machine learning techniques for financial time series prediction is still lacking, making it challenging for finance domain experts and relevant practitioners to determine which model potentially performs better, what techniques and components are involved, and how the model can be designed and implemented. This review article provides an overview of techniques, components and… More > Graphic Abstract

    D. Dorathy Prema Kavitha1, L. Francis Raj1, Sandeep Kautish2,#, Abdulaziz S. Almazyad3, Karam M. Sallam4, Ali Wagdy Mohamed5,6,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 801-816, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030902

Abstract The intuitive fuzzy set has found important application in decision-making and machine learning. To enrich and utilize the intuitive fuzzy set, this study designed and developed a deep neural network-based glaucoma eye detection using fuzzy difference equations in the domain where the retinal images converge. Retinal image detections are categorized as normal eye recognition, suspected glaucomatous eye recognition, and glaucomatous eye recognition. Fuzzy degrees associated with weighted values are calculated to determine the level of concentration between the fuzzy partition and the retinal images. The proposed model was used to diagnose glaucoma using retinal images and involved utilizing the Convolutional… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.3, pp. 2771-2790, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.043383

Abstract Surface electromyography (sEMG) is widely used for analyzing and controlling lower limb assisted exoskeleton robots. Behavior intention recognition based on sEMG is of great significance for achieving intelligent prosthetic and exoskeleton control. Achieving highly efficient recognition while improving performance has always been a significant challenge. To address this, we propose an sEMG-based method called Enhanced Residual Gate Network (ERGN) for lower-limb behavioral intention recognition. The proposed network combines an attention mechanism and a hard threshold function, while combining the advantages of residual structure, which maps sEMG of multiple acquisition channels to the lower limb motion states. Firstly, continuous wavelet transform… More >

Abstract This paper presents a novel computerized technique for the segmentation of nuclei in hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained histopathology images. The purpose of this study is to overcome the challenges faced in automated nuclei segmentation due to the diversity of nuclei structures that arise from differences in tissue types and staining protocols, as well as the segmentation of variable-sized and overlapping nuclei. To this extent, the approach proposed in this study uses an ensemble of the UNet architecture with various Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) architectures as encoder backbones, along with stain normalization and test time augmentation, to improve segmentation accuracy.… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.3, pp. 3593-3618, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.042496

Abstract The South Indian mango industry is confronting severe threats due to various leaf diseases, which significantly impact the yield and quality of the crop. The management and prevention of these diseases depend mainly on their early identification and accurate classification. The central objective of this research is to propose and examine the application of Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) as a potential solution for the precise detection and categorization of diseases impacting the leaves of South Indian mango trees. Our study collected a rich dataset of leaf images representing different disease classes, including Anthracnose, Powdery Mildew, and Leaf Blight. To… More >

Abstract With the help of computer-aided diagnostic systems, cardiovascular diseases can be identified timely manner to minimize the mortality rate of patients suffering from cardiac disease. However, the early diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmia is one of the most challenging tasks. The manual analysis of electrocardiogram (ECG) data with the help of the Holter monitor is challenging. Currently, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is receiving considerable attention from researchers for automatically identifying ECG signals. This paper proposes a 9-layer-based CNN model to classify the ECG signals into five primary categories according to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards and the Association… More >

Fuliang Xu, Yong Luo, Chuanlong Sun, Hong Zhao*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2691-2708, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.030940

Abstract In actual traffic scenarios, precise recognition of traffic participants, such as vehicles and pedestrians, is crucial for intelligent transportation. This study proposes an improved algorithm built on Mask-RCNN to enhance the ability of autonomous driving systems to recognize traffic participants. Additionally, to increase the network’s initial operation stability, the original network activation function was replaced with Gaussian error linear unit. Experiments were conducted using the publicly available Cityscapes dataset.… More >

Visualization for Explanation of Deep Learning-Based Fault Diagnosis Model Using Class Activation Map

    Youming Guo, Qinmu Wu*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.2, pp. 1489-1514, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.042313

Abstract Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is widely used in various production processes because of its high efficiency, fast reaction time, and high power density. With the continuous promotion of new energy vehicles, timely detection of PMSM faults can significantly reduce the accident rate of new energy vehicles, further enhance consumers’ trust in their safety, and thus promote their popularity. Existing fault diagnosis methods based on deep learning can only distinguish different PMSM faults and cannot interpret and analyze them. Convolutional neural networks (CNN) show remarkable accuracy in image data analysis. However, due to the “black box” problem in deep learning… More >
