Abstract The overgrowth of weeds growing along with the primary crop in the fields reduces crop production. Conventional solutions like hand weeding are labor-intensive, costly, and time-consuming; farmers have used herbicides. The application of herbicide is effective but causes environmental and health concerns. Hence, Precision Agriculture (PA) suggests the variable spraying of herbicides so that herbicide chemicals do not affect the primary plants. Motivated by the gap above, we proposed a Deep Learning (DL) based model for detecting Eggplant (Brinjal) weed in this paper. The key objective of this study is to detect plant and non-plant (weed) parts from crop images.… More >

    Menghui Liang1, Changjun Zheng1,*, Yongbin Zhang1, Chuanxing Bi1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09605

Abstract This paper presents an accurate and efficient indirect boundary element method (IBEM) accelerated by the fast multipole algorithm (FMA)for the design sensitivity analysis of large-scale thin-body acoustic problems above an infinite impedance plane. The non-uniqueness issue of the IBEM in solving exterior acoustic problems is avoided by applying a hybrid combination of single- and double-layer potentials. The half-space impedance Green’s function which involves an image complex line source and is valid for both mass-like and spring-like impedance plane is employed to involve the sound-absorbing effect of the ground surface. Explicit evaluation formulations of the singular boundary integrals are derived and… More >

A Fast Direct Boundary Element Method for 3D Acoustic Problems Based on Hierarchical Matrices

    Ruoyan Li1,2, Yijun Liu1,*, Wenjing Ye2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09472

Abstract The boundary element method (BEM) for acoustic problems is a numerical method based on solving the discretized boundary integral equation (BIE) corresponding to the Helmholtz equation. A fast direct BEM for 3D acoustic problems is proposed in this paper, which is more suitable for broadband acoustic simulation of complex structures, such as in the design and analysis of acoustic metamaterials. The main idea of the fast direct solver is based on the hierarchical off-diagonal low-rank (HODLR) matrix, randomized interpolative decomposition and fast matrix inversion formula. Several numerical examples in solving both interior and exterior acoustic problems are presented in this… More >

Abstract Path planning is a prevalent process that helps mobile robots find the most efficient pathway from the starting position to the goal position to avoid collisions with obstacles. In this paper, we propose a novel path planning algorithm–Intermediary RRT*-PSO-by utilizing the exploring speed advantages of Rapidly exploring Random Trees and using its solution to feed to a metaheuristic-based optimizer, Particle swarm optimization (PSO), for fine-tuning and enhancement. In Phase 1, the start and goal trees are initialized at the starting and goal positions, respectively, and the intermediary tree is initialized at a random unexplored region of the search space. Aeroelastic Analysis of Hypersonic Aircraft Wing

    Dan Xie1,*, Shihao Zhang1, Zijun Yi1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010490

Abstract Considering the high cost of numerical simulation for aeroelastic coupling analysis, it is difficult to directly apply it to engineering. In this paper, the typical swept trapezoidal wing of hypersonic aircraft [1] is simplified to a cantilever trapezoidal plate [2]. Based on semi-analytical method [3], including von Karman plate theory to consider the structural geometric nonlinearity, third-order piston theory to calculate quasi steady aerodynamic force, and Rayleigh-Ritz method to characterize the displacement as a mode superposition form, the aeroelastic equation of the swept trapezoidal wing is established, and the fourthorder Runge Kutta numerical integration is used to solve the aeroelastic… More >

A Directional Fast Algorithm for Oscillatory Kernels with Curvelet-Like Functions

    Yanchuang Cao1, Jun Liu1, Dawei Chen1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09272

Abstract Interactions of multiple points with oscillatory kernels are widely encountered in wave analysis. For large scale problems, its direct evaluation is prohibitive since the computational cost increases quadratically with the number of points.
Various fast algorithms have been constructed by exploiting specific properties of the kernel function. Early fast algorithms, such as the fast multipole method (FMM) and its variants, H2-matrix, adaptive cross approximation (ACA), wavelet-based method, etc., are generally developed for kernels that are asymptotically smooth when source points and target points are well separated. For oscillatory kernels, however, the asymptotic smoothness criteria is only satisfied when the oscillation… More >

Efficient and Robust Temperature Field Simulation of Long-Distance Crude Oil Pipeline Based on Bayesian Neural Network and PDE

    Weixin Jiang1,*, Qing Yuan2, Zongze Li3, Junhua Gong3, Bo Yu4

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.08861

Abstract The hydraulic and thermal simulation of crude oil pipeline transportation is greatly significant for the safe transportation and accurate regulation of pipelines. With reasonable basic parameters, the solution of the traditional partial differential equation (PDE) for the axial soil temperature field on the pipeline can obtain accurate simulation results, yet it brings about a low calculation efficiency problem. In order to overcome the low-efficiency problem, an efficient and robust hybrid solution model for soil temperature field coupling with Bayesian neural network and PDE is proposed, which considers the dynamic changes of boundary conditions. Four models, including the proposed hybrid model,… More >

Ultrafast Adsorption of Tiny Oil Droplets Within Water by Superhydrophobic-Superoleophilic Conical Micro-arrays

    Yunyun Song1, Xu Zhang1, Jialei Yang1, Zhongqiang Zhang1,*, Guanggui Cheng1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09916

Abstract Although floating oil with large particle sizes can easily be separated from water by membrane separation methods, tiny oil droplets with tremendously small volume force and density gradient at oil-water interfaces within water lead to barriers of oil-water separation. Consequently, tiny oil droplets remain in the water, resulting in energy waste, environmental pollution and biological health hazard. Traditional super-wetting membranes with extremely small pore sizes were easily blocked during the oil-water separation process. Inspired by the cactus and rice leaf, we developed a superhydrophobic-superoleophilic surface with conical micro-arrays to realize ultrafast adsorption of tiny oil droplets within the water. Investigation for Fast Prediction of Residual Stresses and Deformations of Metal Additive Manufacturing

    Yabin Yang1,*, Yanfei Wang1, Quan Li2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09842

Abstract Residual stresses and deformations are one of the challenges needs to solve for metal additive manufacturing part. Finite element method plays an important role in predicting the residual stresses and deformations to reduce the experimental costs, and provides a powerful tool for the optimization of process parameters and scanning strategies of heat source. However, the key problem in simulation is the mismatch between the melt pool and the built part in both spatial and temporal scale. This would result in large discretization in both spatial and temporal domains in the simulation, which gives rise to huge computational cost. Therefore, it… More >
