    Zhengguang Liu1, Jun Yang1, Tobi Fadiji2, Zhiguo Li1,*, Jiheng Ni3

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.4, pp. 1071-1090, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.026408

Abstract Wind disturbance as a green method can effectively prevent the overgrowth of tomato seedlings, and its mechanism may be related to root system mechanics. This study characterized the biophysical mechanical properties of taproot and lateral roots of tomato seedlings at five seedling ages and seedling substrates with three different moisture content. The corresponding root system-substrate finite element (FE) model was then developed and validated. The study showed that seedling age significantly affected the biomechanical properties of the taproot and lateral roots of the seedlings and that moisture content significantly affected the biomechanical properties of the seedling substrate (p < 0.05).… More >

    Gaoyuan Yu1, Yunfeng Lou2, Hang Dong3, Junjie Li1, Xianlong Jin1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.1, pp. 135-155, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.025166

Abstract Heterogeneous multicore clusters are becoming more popular for high-performance computing due to their great computing power and cost-to-performance effectiveness nowadays. Nevertheless, parallel efficiency degradation is still a problem in large-scale structural analysis based on heterogeneous multicore clusters. To solve it, a hybrid hierarchical parallel algorithm (HHPA) is proposed on the basis of the conventional domain decomposition algorithm (CDDA) and the parallel sparse solver. In this new algorithm, a three-layer parallelization of the computational procedure is introduced to enable the separation of the communication of inter-nodes, heterogeneous-core-groups (HCGs) and inside-heterogeneous-core-groups through mapping computing tasks to various hardware layers. This approach can… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.1, pp. 421-445, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.024133

Abstract To better improve the lightweight and fatigue durability performance of the tractor cab, a multi-objective lightweight design of the cab was carried out in this study. First, the finite element model of the cab with counterweight loading was established and then confirmed by the physical testing, and use the inertial relief method to obtain stress distribution under unit load. The cab-frame rigid-flexible coupling multi-body dynamics model was built by Adams/car software. Taking the cab airbag mount displacement and acceleration signals acquired on the proving ground as the desired signals and obtaining the fatigue analysis load spectrum through Femfat-Lab virtual iteration.… More > Graphic Abstract

Parallel Iterative FEM Solver with Initial Guess for Frequency Domain Electromagnetic Analysis

    Woochan Lee1, Woobin Park1, Jaeyoung Park2, Young-Joon Kim3, Moonseong Kim4,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1585-1602, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.033112

Abstract The finite element method is a key player in computational electromagnetics for designing RF (Radio Frequency) components such as waveguides. The frequency-domain analysis is fundamental to identify the characteristics of the components. For the conventional frequency-domain electromagnetic analysis using FEM (Finite Element Method), the system matrix is complex-numbered as well as indefinite. The iterative solvers can be faster than the direct solver when the solver convergence is guaranteed and done in a few steps. However, such complex-numbered and indefinite systems are hard to exploit the merit of the iterative solver. It is also hard to benefit from matrix factorization techniques… More >

Ying He, Yongshuang Wen*, Xuemei Huang, Leian Zhang, Rujun Song, Chang Li

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.2, pp. 445-459, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.022223

Abstract In order to study the mechanical properties of the heterogeneous core plate of the wind turbine blade, a modeling method of the core plate based on displacement field variables is proposed. Firstly, the wind turbine blade core plate was modeled according to the theory of modeling heterogeneous material characteristics. Secondly, the three-point bending finite element model of the wind turbine blade core plate was solved by the display dynamic equation to obtain the deformation pattern and force-deformation relationship of the core plate. Finally, the three-point bending static test was conducted to compare with the finite element analysis. The test results… More >

    Abstract

This paper deals with the numerical implementation of the exponential Drucker-Parger plasticity model in the commercial finite element software, ABAQUS, via user subroutine UMAT for adhesive joint simulations. The influence of hydrostatic pressure on adhesive strength was investigated by a modified Arcan fixture designed particularly to induce a different state of hydrostatic pressure within an adhesive layer. The developed user subroutine UMAT, which utilizes an associated plastic flow during a plastic deformation, can provide a good agreement between the simulations and the experimental data. Better numerical stability at highly positive hydrostatic pressure loads for a very high order of exponential… More > Graphic Abstract

Finite Element Simulation of Radial Tire Building and Shaping Processes Using an Elasto-Viscoplastic Model

    Yinlong Wang1, Zhao Li2, Ziran Li1,*, Yang Wang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 1187-1208, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022596

Abstract The comprehensive tire building and shaping processes are investigated through the finite element method (FEM) in this article. The mechanical properties of the uncured rubber from different tire components are investigated through cyclic loading-unloading experiments under different strain rates. Based on the experiments, an elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model is adopted to describe the mechanical behaviors of the uncured rubber. The distinct mechanical properties, including the stress level, hysteresis and residual strain, of the uncured rubber can all be well characterized. The whole tire building process (including component winding, rubber bladder inflation, component stitching and carcass band folding-back) and the shaping process… More >

Abstract In this article, the rheology of Ferro-fluid over an axisymmetric heated disc with a variable magnetic field by considering the dispersion of hybrid nanoparticles is considered. The flow is assumed to be produced by the stretching of a rotating heated disc. The contribution of variable thermophysical properties is taken to explore the momentum, mass and thermal transportation. The concept of boundary layer mechanism is engaged to reduce the complex problem into a simpler one in the form of coupled partial differential equations system. The complex coupled PDEs are converted into highly nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations system (ODEs) and the… More >

    Ankush Kapoor1, Pradeep Kumar2,*, Ranjan Mishra3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 341-361, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.028874

Abstract Frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) play an important role in wireless systems as these can be used as filters, in isolating the unwanted radiation, in microstrip patch antennas for improving the performance of these antennas and in other 5G applications. The analysis and design of the double concentric ring frequency selective surface (DCRFSS) is presented in this research. In the sub-6 GHz 5G FR1 spectrum, a computational synthesis technique for creating DCRFSS based spatial filters is proposed. The analytical tools presented in this study can be used to gain a better understanding of filtering processes and for constructing the spatial filters.… More >
