Pengzhu Li, Martina Bačová, Robert Dalla-Pozza, Nikolaus Alexander Haas, Felix Sebastian Oberhoffer*

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.17, No.2, pp. 129-141, 2022, DOI:10.32604/CHD.2022.018300

Abstract Turner syndrome (TS) is a rare disorder affecting 25–50 in 100000 female newborns. Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is assumed to be the most common congenital heart defect (CHD) in TS. In literature, reported BAV prevalence in TS ranges between 14% and 34%. The specific BAV prevalence in TS is still unknown. The aim of this study was to give a more precise estimation of BAV prevalence in TS by conducting a meta-analysis of TS-studies, which detected BAV by either cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or cardiac computed tomography (CT). We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to… More >

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.17, No.2, pp. 117-128, 2022, DOI:10.32604/chd.2022.018779

Abstract Background: Repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) patients may have residual lesions such as main (MPA) and branch pulmonary artery stenosis (BPAS). While MPA stenosis is well studied, few data are available on BPAS in rTOF. We aimed to describe pulmonary perfusion in a large paediatric cohort of rTOF and its impact on right ventricular and outflow-tract hemodynamics using 4D flow CMR. Methods: 130 consecutive patients (mean age at CMR 14.3 ± 4.6 years) were retrospectively reviewed. 96 patients had transannular patch without valve preservation while 34 patients had conserved annulus or valved conduit. A pulmonary blood flow ratio (right pulmonary artery (RPA)/left… More > Graphic Abstract

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 5005-5020, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023007

Abstract Brain tumors are considered as most fatal cancers. To reduce the risk of death, early identification of the disease is required. One of the best available methods to evaluate brain tumors is Magnetic resonance Images (MRI). Brain tumor detection and segmentation are tough as brain tumors may vary in size, shape, and location. That makes manual detection of brain tumors by exploring MRI a tedious job for radiologists and doctors’. So an automated brain tumor detection and segmentation is required. This work suggests a Region-based Convolution Neural Network (RCNN) approach for automated brain tumor identification and segmentation using MR images,… More >

    N. Veni1,*, J. Manjula2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.42, No.2, pp. 825-835, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.022318

Abstract The advancement of automated medical diagnosis in biomedical engineering has become an important area of research. Image classification is one of the diagnostic approaches that do not require segmentation which can draw quicker inferences. The proposed non-invasive diagnostic support system in this study is considered as an image classification system where the given brain image is classified as normal or abnormal. The ability of deep learning allows a single model for feature extraction as well as classification whereas the rational models require separate models. One of the best models for image localization and classification is the Visual Geometric Group (VGG)… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 937-950, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.021954

Abstract The interest in using fractal theory and its applications has grown in the field of image processing. Image enhancement is one of the feature processing tools, which aims to improve the details of an image. The enhancement of digital pictures is a challenging task due to the unforeseeable variation in the quality of the captured images. In this study, we present a mathematical model using a local conformable differential operator (LCDO). The proposed model is formulated by the theory of cantor fractal to generalize the definition of LCDO. The main advantage of utilizing LCDO for image enhancement is its capability… More >

Abstract Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the head and neck, and its incidence is the highest all around the world. Intensive radiotherapy using computer-aided diagnosis is the best technique for the treatment of NPC. The key step of radiotherapy is the delineation of the target areas and organs at risk, that is, tumor images segmentation. We proposed the segmentation method of NPC image based on multi-scale cascaded fully convolutional network. It used cascaded network and multi-scale feature for a coarse-to-fine segmentation to improve the segmentation effect. In coarse segmentation, image blocks and data augmentation… More >

    Juhong Tie1,2,*, Hui Peng2, Jiliu Zhou1,3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.2, pp. 427-445, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014107

Abstract The main task of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) automatic brain tumor segmentation is to automatically segment the brain tumor edema, peritumoral edema, endoscopic core, enhancing tumor core and nonenhancing tumor core from 3D MR images. Because the location, size, shape and intensity of brain tumors vary greatly, it is very difficult to segment these brain tumor regions automatically. In this paper, by combining the advantages of DenseNet and ResNet, we proposed a new 3D U-Net with dense encoder blocks and residual decoder blocks. We used dense blocks in the encoder part and residual blocks in the decoder part. The number… More >
