Abstract Brain tumor is one of the most dreadful worldwide types of cancer and affects people leading to death. Magnetic resonance imaging methods capture skull images that contain healthy and affected tissue. Radiologists checked the affected tissue in the slice-by-slice manner, which was time-consuming and hectic task. Therefore, auto segmentation of the affected part is needed to facilitate radiologists. Therefore, we have considered a hybrid model that inherits the convolutional neural network (CNN) properties to the support vector machine (SVM) for the auto-segmented brain tumor region. The CNN model is initially used to detect brain tumors, while SVM is integrated to… More >

    Irfan Ahmed Usmani1,*, Muhammad Tahir Qadri1, Razia Zia1, Asif Aziz2, Farheen Saeed3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 4369-4392, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.030698

Abstract Knowledge-based transfer learning techniques have shown good performance for brain tumor classification, especially with small datasets. However, to obtain an optimized model for targeted brain tumor classification, it is challenging to select a pre-trained deep learning (DL) model, optimal values of hyperparameters, and optimization algorithm (solver). This paper first presents a brief review of recent literature related to brain tumor classification. Secondly, a robust framework for implementing the transfer learning technique is proposed. In the proposed framework, a Cartesian product matrix is generated to determine the optimal values of the two important hyperparameters: batch size and learning rate. An extensive… More >

Abstract This paper presents a study of the segmentation of medical images. The paper provides a solid introduction to image enhancement along with image segmentation fundamentals. In the first step, the morphological operations are employed to ensure image detail protection and noise-immunity. The objective of using morphological operations is to remove the defects in the texture of the image. Secondly, the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering algorithm is used to modify membership function based only on the spatial neighbors instead of the distance between pixels within local spatial neighbors and cluster centers. The proposed technique is very simple to implement and significantly… More >

    R. Priyadharsini*, A. Kunthavai

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.1, pp. 261-279, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.025884

Abstract Radio waves and strong magnetic fields are used by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners to detect tumours, wounds and visualize detailed images of the human body. Wi-Fi and other medical devices placed in the MRI procedure room produces RF noise in MRI Images. The RF noise is the result of electromagnetic emissions produced by Wi-Fi and other medical devices that interfere with the operation of the MRI scanner. Existing techniques for RF noise mitigation involve RF shielding techniques which induce eddy currents that affect the MRI image quality. RF shielding techniques are complex and lead to RF leakage. Conditional Generative Adversarial Network Approach for Autism Prediction

    K. Chola Raja1,*, S. Kannimuthu2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 741-755, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.025331

Abstract Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) requires a precise diagnosis in order to be managed and rehabilitated. Non-invasive neuroimaging methods are disease markers that can be used to help diagnose ASD. The majority of available techniques in the literature use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to detect ASD with a small dataset, resulting in high accuracy but low generality. Traditional supervised machine learning classification algorithms such as support vector machines function well with unstructured and semi structured data such as text, images, and videos, but their performance and robustness are restricted by the size of the accompanying training data. CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 1001-1017, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023135

Abstract Gliomas are the most aggressive brain tumors caused by the abnormal growth of brain tissues. The life expectancy of patients diagnosed with gliomas decreases exponentially. Most gliomas are diagnosed in later stages, resulting in imminent death. On average, patients do not survive 14 months after diagnosis. The only way to minimize the impact of this inevitable disease is through early diagnosis. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans, because of their better tissue contrast, are most frequently used to assess the brain tissues. The manual classification of MRI scans takes a reasonable amount of time to classify brain tumors. Besides this,… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 4645-4661, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026999

Abstract Whole brain functional connectivity (FC) patterns obtained from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) have been widely used in the diagnosis of brain disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Recently, an increasing number of studies have focused on employing deep learning techniques to analyze FC patterns for brain disease classification. However, the high dimensionality of the FC features and the interpretation of deep learning results are issues that need to be addressed in the FC-based brain disease classification. In this paper, we proposed a multi-scale attention-based deep neural network (MSA-DNN) model to classify FC patterns for the ASD diagnosis.… More >
