An Efficient Schema Transformation Technique for Data Migration from Relational to Column-Oriented Databases

    Norwini Zaidi1, Iskandar Ishak2,*, Fatimah Sidi2, Lilly Suriani Affendey2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 1175-1188, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.021969

Abstract Data transformation is the core process in migrating database from relational database to NoSQL database such as column-oriented database. However, there is no standard guideline for data transformation from relational database to NoSQL database. A number of schema transformation techniques have been proposed to improve data transformation process and resulted better query processing time when compared to the relational database query processing time. However, these approaches produced redundant tables in the resulted schema that in turn consume large unnecessary storage size and produce high query processing time due to the generated schema with redundant column families in the transformed column-oriented… More >

Fault Tolerance in the Joint EDF-RMS Algorithm: A Comparative Simulation Study

    Rashmi Sharma1, Nitin Nitin2, Deepak Dahiya3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 5197-5213, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.025059

Abstract Failure is a systemic error that affects overall system performance and may eventually crash across the entire configuration. In Real-Time Systems (RTS), deadline is the key to successful completion of the program. If tasks effectively meet the deadline, it means the system is working in pristine order. However, missing the deadline means a systemic fault due to which the system can crash (hard RTS) or degrade inclusive performance (soft RTS). To fine-tune the RTS, tolerance is the critical issue and must be handled with extreme care. This article explains the context of fault tolerance with improvised Joint EDF-RMS algorithm in… More >

Efficient Energy-Aware Resource Management Model (EEARMM) Based Dynamic VM Migration

    V. Roopa1,*, K. Malarvizhi2, S. Karthik3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.2, pp. 657-669, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.022173

Abstract In cloud environment, an efficient resource management establishes the allocation of computational resources of cloud service providers to the requests of users for meeting the user’s demands. The proficient resource management and work allocation determines the accomplishment of the cloud infrastructure. However, it is very difficult to persuade the objectives of the Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) and end users in an impulsive cloud domain with random changes of workloads, huge resource availability and complicated service policies to handle them, With that note, this paper attempts to present an Efficient Energy-Aware Resource Management Model (EEARMM) that works in a decentralized manner.… More >

Tumor-Associated Macrophages Facilitate the Proliferation and Migration of Cervical Cancer Cells

    Yi Zheng1, Youyou Wang2, Chen Zou1, Bicheng Hu2, Min Zhao2, Xinxing Wu2,*

    Oncologie, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 147-161, 2022, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2022.019236

Abstract Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are important components in tumor microenvironment. This study intended to explore the influence of TAMs on cervical cancer cells proliferation and migration. The expression levels of TAMs markers, CD68 and CD163, in tissues were examined by immunohistochemistry and increased with the progression of cervical lesions (p < 0.05). TAMs with M2-like phenotype (PMA(Polymethacrylate) induced THP-1 cells) were noticed to promote the proliferation of cervical cancer cells and improve the migration ability of tumor cells. These enhancements were attributed to secreting soluble components and the physical contact between macrophages and tumor cells. The tumor formation and tumor growth… More >

Bayes Theorem Based Virtual Machine Scheduling for Optimal Energy Consumption

    R. Swathy*, B. Vinayagasundaram

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.1, pp. 159-174, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.023706

Abstract This paper proposes an algorithm for scheduling Virtual Machines (VM) with energy saving strategies in the physical servers of cloud data centers. Energy saving strategy along with a solution for productive resource utilization for VM deployment in cloud data centers is modeled by a combination of “Virtual Machine Scheduling using Bayes Theorem” algorithm (VMSBT) and Virtual Machine Migration (VMMIG) algorithm. It is shown that the overall data center’s consumption of energy is minimized with a combination of VMSBT algorithm and Virtual Machine Migration (VMMIG) algorithm. Virtual machine migration between the active physical servers in the data center is carried out… More >

Computational Investigation of Cell Migration Behavior in a Confluent Epithelial Monolayer

    Jie Bai, Xiaowei Zeng*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.2, pp. 551-565, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.019376

Abstract Cell migration plays a significant role in many biological activities, yet the physical mechanisms of cell migration are still not well understood. In this study, a continuum physics-based epithelial monolayer model including the intercellular interaction was employed to study the cell migration behavior in a confluent epithelial monolayer at constant cell density. The epithelial cell was modeled as isotropic elastic material. Through finite element simulation, the results revealed that the motile cell was subjected to higher stress than the other jammed cells during the migration process. Cell stiffness was implied to play a significant role in epithelial cell migration behavior.… More >

Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide inhibits the metastasis of breast cancer to the lungs by inhibiting epithelial–mesenchymal transition

    NING LI1,#, YANG CHEN2,#, YONGJIE YANG3,4, SHUHAN LYU1, YUE PAN1,5,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.6, pp. 1473-1482, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018278

Abstract Breast cancer is a highly aggressive cancer in females. Metastasis is a major obstacle to the efficient and successful treatment of breast cancer. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) has anti-tumor effects on a variety of tumors. We showed that CTAB inhibits the metastasis of breast cancer to the lungs both in vitro and in vivo. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is thought to be one of the major processes mediating breast cancer metastasis. We found that CTAB suppressed EMT and regulated the levels of the classical EMT markers E-cadherin, N-cadherin, vimentin, Snail and Twist1. Moreover, as a candidate anti-tumor agent, CTAB showed primary safety… More >

A Virtual Machine Placement Strategy Based on Virtual Machine Selection and Integration

    Denghui Zhang1,*, Guocai Yin2

    Journal on Internet of Things, Vol.3, No.4, pp. 149-157, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jiot.2021.016936

Abstract Cloud data centers face the largest energy consumption. In order to save energy consumption in cloud data centers, cloud service providers adopt a virtual machine migration strategy. In this paper, we propose an efficient virtual machine placement strategy (VMP-SI) based on virtual machine selection and integration. Our proposed VMP-SI strategy divides the migration process into three phases: physical host state detection, virtual machine selection and virtual machine placement. The local regression robust (LRR) algorithm and minimum migration time (MMT) policy are individual used in the first and section phase, respectively. Then we design a virtual machine migration strategy that integrates… More >
