    Yadong Zhou1,*, Yile Zhang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09333

Abstract Dynamic simulation and design of complex composite structures with energy-absorbing lattice are critically important for aircraft applications. In this study, high-velocity impact behaviors (deformation and damage modes) of sandwich composite structures with multilayer lattice are numerically studied by using explicit dynamics computation. First, the modeling strategy for sandwich composite panels with the multilayer lattice and foam core is developed by using Finite Element Method (FEM). In FEM model, the beam, shell, and solid elements are applied together for both the computational accuracy and efficiency. The unit cell model of the lattice is used considering the periodicity of the multilayer structure.… More >

    Yao Lu1, Jianyu Chen2, Dianlei Feng3,*, Moubin Liu1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.3, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.010004

Abstract CFRPs (carbon fiber reinforced plastics), as a kind of fiber-reinforced plastic, present various advantages over traditional materials regarding the specific strength, stiffness, and corrosion resistance. For this reason, CFRPs are widely used in the space industry, like satellites and space stations, which are easily subjected to the HVIs (hypervelocity impacts) threatened by space debris. In order to mitigate the damage of HVIs and protect the spatial structures, it is necessary to predict the HVI process on CFRPs. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method, as a mesh-free particle-based method, has been widely applied for modeling HVI problems due to its special advantages… More >

Inertial and Particle Shape Effects on Fluid-Particle Suspension Flows: A Resolved SPH-DEM Study

    Yueting Li1,*, Ning Guo1, Zhongxuan Yang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09970

Abstract The rheological behavior of fluid-particle suspensions affects the flow dynamics of natural processes such as lavas, flow-type landslides and sediment transport. This study presents results of fully resolved simulations of monodisperse non-Brownian suspensions in a Couette flow using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method coupled with discrete element method (DEM), which allows for simulation of arbitrary-shaped particles. Several benchmark tests have been conducted to verify the reliability of the method. Two density ratios are considered in the study, i.e., 2.65 and 10, with the average particle area fraction varying from 14% to 47% and particle Reynolds number varying from 0.15… More >

Particle Dynamics in a Low-Reynolds-Number Fluid Under Spherical Confinement

    Gaofeng Chen1,2, Xikai Jiang1,2,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09877

Abstract Dynamics of a single particle suspended in a low-Reynolds-number fluid under spherical confinement was studied numerically. We calculated hydrodynamic mobilities of a sphere, a prolate spheroid, and an oblate spheroid parallel and transverse to particle-cavity line of centres. The mobilities show maximum in the cavity centre and decay as the particle moves towards the no-slip wall. For prolate and oblate spheroids, their mobilities are also affected by the angle between particle's axis of revolution and the particle-cavity line of centres due to particle anisotropy. It was observed that the effect of particle anisotropy becomes stronger as the confinement level increases.… More >

Three-Dimensional Numerical Simulation of Large-Scale LandslideGenerated Surging Waves with a GPU‒Accelerated Soil‒Water Coupled SPH Model

    Can Huang1,*, Xiaoliang Wang1, Qingquan Liu1, Huaning Wang2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09824

Abstract Soil‒water coupling is an important process in landslide-generated impulse waves (LGIW) problems, accompanied by large deformation of soil, strong interface coupling and three-dimensional effect. A meshless particle method, smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) has great advantages in dealing with complex interface and multiphase coupling problems. This study presents an improved soil‒water coupled model to simulate LGIW problems based on an open source code DualSPHysics (v4.0). Aiming to solve the low efficiency problem in modeling real large-scale LGIW problems, graphics processing unit (GPU) acceleration technology is implemented into this code. An experimental example, subaerial landslidegenerated water waves, is simulated to validate this… More >

    Abstract

Myc belongs to a family of proto-oncogenes that encode transcription factors. The overexpression of c-Myc causes many types of cancers. Recently, we established a system for screening c-Myc inhibitors and identified antimycin A by screening the RIKEN NPDepo chemical library. The specific mechanism of promoting tumor cell metastasis by high c-Myc expression remains to be explained. In this study, we screened approximately 5,600 microbial extracts using this system and identified a broth prepared from Streptomyces sp. RK19-A0402 strongly inhibits c-Myc transcriptional activity. After purification of the hit broth, we identified compounds closely related to the aglycone of cytovaricin and had… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Iron-pillared bentonite (FB) was prepared by Fe(III) modified bentonite, and then the composites (FB-OS) were prepared by iron-pillared bentonite and oyster shell powder. The composites were characterized by FTIR, SEM, TGA, and EDS, and the phosphorus removal test was carried out. The results showed that FB-OS contained a large amount of CaO. Its structure was compact, but there were gaps in it. The maximum bending stress and compressive strength were 43.7 N and 0.927 MPa, respectively. The phosphorus removal test showed that the phosphorus removal rate of FB-OS was more than 90%, and measured the maximum adsorption capacity was 48.31… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract In this article, the heat, momentum and mass (species) transfer in external boundary layer flow of Casson nanofluid from an isothermal sphere surface is studied theoretically. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are incorporated in the model in the presence of both heat and nanoparticle mass transfer. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into highly nonlinear, coupled, multi-degree non-similar partial differential equations consisting of the momentum, energy and concentration equations via appropriate non-similarity transformations. These transformed conservation equations are solved subject to appropriate boundary conditions with a second order accurate finite difference method of the implicit type.… More >

    A. Subba Raoa,*, L. Nagarajaa,b, M. Sudhakar Reddya , M. Surya Narayana Reddyb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-11, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.17

Abstract This article investigates the theoretical steady magneto hydrodynamic heat flow of incompressible non-Newtonian Tangent Hyperbolic fluid flow over a sphere with Soret and Dufour effects. The governing coupled non-linear partial differential equations are reduced to non-similarity boundary layer equations using appropriate transformation and then solved using the finite difference Keller-Box method. The effect of various flow parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration are analyzed and presented graphically. More >
