Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-6, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.13

Abstract A hybrid cellular automaton model combined with a finite element method for thermal topology optimization of spindle structure is developed. The higher order 8-node element and von Neumann strategy are employed for the finite element and the cellular element, respectively. The local sensitivity filtering algorithm and the weight approach are applied. The four validating studies of two-dimensional structure for thermal topology optimization are carried out. The structure evolution and thermal distribution evolution of thermal topology optimization are investigated. The results show the developed hybrid method is more efficient for thermal topology optimization. Meanwhile, the thermal topology optimization for spindle structure… More >

Abstract Objectives: To access the effectiveness of our modified right-ventricular overhauling procedure on tricuspid valve (TV) growth in patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PAIVS). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 21 patients with PAIVS who underwent modified right ventricular overhauling (mRVoh) between 2008 and 2019 at two institutions. Our mRVoh consisted of wide resection of hypertrophied infundibular and trabecular muscle, peeling off fibrotic endocardial tissue in the right ventricle (RV) cavity, surgical pulmonary valvotomy, and Blalock-Taussig shunt or banding of ductus arteriosus under cardiopulmonary bypass. The TV annulus sizes were measured and analyzed using echocardiography before and after mRVoh. Results:More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Glaucoma is a progressive eye disease that can lead to blindness if left untreated. Early detection is crucial to prevent vision loss, but current manual scanning methods are expensive, time-consuming, and require specialized expertise. This study presents a novel approach to Glaucoma detection using the Enhanced Grey Wolf Optimized Support Vector Machine (EGWO-SVM) method. The proposed method involves preprocessing steps such as removing image noise using the adaptive median filter (AMF) and feature extraction using the previously processed speeded-up robust feature (SURF), histogram of oriented gradients (HOG), and Global features. The enhanced Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) technique is then employed… More >

OPTIMIZATION STUDIES OF TRANSPIRATION COOLING USING POROUS MEDIUM WITH GRADUALLY-CHANGED STRUCTURE

Yu Chena , Shen Dua, Dong Lia, Yang Gaob, Ya-Ling Hea,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.15, pp. 1-13, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.15.19

Abstract Non-uniform heating and vapor blockage deteriorate the effectiveness of transpiration cooling, and an optimization method by using porous media with a gradually-changed structure is proposed. The numerical tool based on a two-phase mixture model and local thermal non-equilibrium assumption considering variable properties of coolant is applied. Porous media with linearly-changed porosity or particle diameter is analyzed. The transient results presented that the structure of gradually-changed porosity (or particle diameter) with appropriate parameters can delay the heat transfer deterioration. And it is confirmed that the present theoretical model is an effective tool for optimization design of transpiration cooling system. More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.7, pp. 2017-2034, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.027469

Abstract Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) E3 ligases that facilitate the conjugation of SUMO proteins to target substrates contain an SP-RING domain which is like the RING domain found in ubiquitin E3 ligases. In this study, we isolated and characterized the Oryza sativa protein inhibitor of activated STAT like1 (OsPIAL1) containing SP-RING domains, as the rice homolog of Arabidopsis PIALs. OsPIAL1 interacts with OsSUMO proteins but does not interact with rice SUMO-conjugating enzymes (OsSCEs). An analysis of transgenic rice plant shows that OsPIAL1 is involved in SUMO conjugation to SCEs but not in SUMO conjugation to substrates. In addition, this OsPIAL1 activity… More >
