The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-3, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.08905

Abstract As the fossil energy is increasingly exhausted and air pollution becomes more and more serious, blade electric vehicles equipped with rechargeable lithium-ion battery turns into the major developing direction of new energy automobile [1-3]. Lithium-ion batteries have the advantages of high energy density, light weight, and no pollution, and thereby are widely used in electric vehicles [4,5]. However, the working performance and service life of lithium-ion batteries are greatly affected by temperature [6]. Excessive high and low temperature will reduce the charge and discharge capacity of lithium-ion batteries, shorten their service life, and even lead to safety accidents [7]. Therefore,… More >

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 19-35, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2023.042944

Abstract As an important lightning protection device in substations, lightning rods are susceptible to vibration and potential structural damage under wind loads. In order to understand their vibration mechanism, it is necessary to conduct flow analysis. In this study, numerical simulations of the flow field around a 330 kV cylindrical lightning rod with different diameters were performed using the SST k-ω model. The flow patterns in different segments of the lightning rod at the same reference wind speed (wind speed at a height of 10 m) and the flow patterns in the same segment at different reference wind speeds were investigated. The variations… More >

    Shihao Tian1,2, Quanzi Yuan1,2,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09327

Abstract When one soluble fiber is partially merged into liquid, a meniscus forms and the fiber can be dissolved into one pinpoint with curvature. This process has been used in the manufacture of sophisticated pinpoints. However, it is hard to observe the dissolution process in the laboratory and the dissolution mechanisms are still far from being well understood in the nanoscale. Here we utilize molecular dynamics simulations to study the dissolution process of one meniscus-adhered nanofiber. We find that the tip’s curvature radius decreases and then increases, reaching the maximum in the middle state. This state is defined as the “Sh… More >

An Efficient Peridynamics Based Statistical Multiscale Method for Fracture in Composite Structure with Randomly Distributed Particles

    Zihao Yang1, Shaoqi Zheng1, Fei Han2,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09250

Abstract This paper proposes a peridynamics-based statistical multiscale (PSM) framework to simulate the macroscopic structure fracture with high efficiency. The heterogeneities of composites, including the shape, spatial distribution and volume fraction of particles, are characterized within the representative volume elements (RVEs), and their impact on structure failure are extracted as two types of peridynamic parameters, namely, statistical critical stretch and equivalent micromodulus. At the microscale level, a bondbased peridynamic (BPD) model with energy-based micromodulus correction technique is introduced to simulate the fracture in RVEs, and then the computational model of statistical critical stretch is established through micromechanical analysis. Moreover, based on… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09077

Abstract Non-autoclaved concrete pipe piles are gaining attention as an environmentally friendly alternative to autoclaved concrete pipe piles. The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in the impact resistance of a non-autoclaved concrete pipe pile with the addition of rubber. To this end, various volume fractions of rubber particles were used to replace the fine sand in the non-autoclaved pipe pile concrete (0%, 5%, 10% and 15%). Additionally, the axial impact resistance of rubber modified non-autoclaved concrete pipe pile was studied from the concrete materials and pipe pile components through quasi-static, dynamic compression and splitting tensile tests and… More >

Zongjun Yin*, Rong Su, Hui Xu

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.3, pp. 487-504, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.042631

Abstract In this study, numerical simulations of the pinching-off phenomena displayed by the dispersed phase in a continuous phase have been conducted using COMSOL Multiphysics (level-set method). Four flow patterns, namely “drop flow”, “jet flow”, “squeeze flow”, and “co-flow”, have been obtained for different flow velocity ratios, channel diameter ratios, density ratios, viscosity ratios, and surface tension. The flow pattern map of two-phase flow in coaxial microchannels has been obtained accordingly, and the associated droplet generation process has been critically discussed considering the related frequency, diameter, and pinch-off length. In particular, it is shown that the larger the flow velocity ratio,… More > Graphic Abstract

    Lifeng Liu1, Menghe Shi2, Jianhui Wang3, Wendong Wang2,*, Yuliang Su2, Xinyu Zhuang2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.3, pp. 595-607, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.041962

Abstract Ultra-low permeability reservoirs are characterized by small pore throats and poor physical properties, which are at the root of well-known problems related to injection and production. In this study, a gas injection flooding approach is analyzed in the framework of numerical simulations. In particular, the sequence and timing of fracture channeling and the related impact on production are considered for horizontal wells with different fracture morphologies. Useful data and information are provided about the regulation of gas channeling and possible strategies to delay gas channeling and optimize the gas injection volume and fracture parameters. It is shown that in order… More >

A Four-Site Water Model for Liquid and Supercooled Water Based on Machine Learning: TIP4P-BGWT

    Jian Wang1,*, Yonggang Zheng1, Hongwu Zhang1, Hongfei Ye1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09761

Abstract Water is the most ubiquitous fluid in nature and widely exists in the micro/nanoconfinement of leafstalks, shale, bones, etc. The complex relation of the properties and behaviours of water to the temperature, pressure and confinement size enhances the difficulty in the accurate simulation, such as the supercooled state of pure water below the freezing point. As a powerful tool, molecular dynamics simulation is adequate for investigating the relevant properties and behaviours. However, accurately calculating the physical properties of liquid and supercooled water is quite challenging by molecular simulations owing to limited model parameters. Machine learning (ML) techniques and temperature-dependent parameters… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09220

Abstract The thermomechanical response and potential cracking in nuclear fuel rods are extremely important for nuclear safety analysis. The Pellet-Clad Mechanical Interaction (PCMI) is a significant factor for the thermomechanical behaviors of pellet and clad. This study presents a PCMI model based on ordinary statebased peridynamic (OSB-PD) theory, which considering the heat transfer through the gap and contact heat transfer between pellet and clad. The two-dimensional (2D) models are constructed through irregular nonuniform discretization. The pellet model includes the random variability of the critical stretch of each bond based on normal distribution. The contact model with non-uniform discretization is proposed in… More >
