Jiayou Liu, Lian Ding, Xue Zhang, Song Li, Yunxiao Guan, Diwen Jia, Aiping Song, Jiafu Jiang, Fadi Chen*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.2, pp. 311-331, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023896

Abstract Chrysanthemum morifolium, an ornamental crop with diverse forms of inflorescence, is a good model for studying flower development in Asteraceae. However, the genetic background is complex and the mechanisms of regulating flower development are still unclear. Here, we identified two natural mutant lines of chrysanthemum and named them M1 and M2 according to the severity of the phenotype. Both lines showed defects in petal identity, and the petals of the M1 line had a mild phenotype: partially loss of petal identity and conversion of petals into green, leaf-like organs. The M2 line had severe phenotypes: in addition to severe petal… More >

    Kesheng Lin1,3,#, Zhengqi Wang2,#, Li Wang1,3, Jiawen Zhou1,3, Lijuan Han1,3, Jingjing Wen2, Tingxia Dong2, Ran Duan2,*, Ning Li1,3,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.2, pp. 423-437, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023763

Abstract Prohibited pesticide residues have become one of the main factors affecting the quality and safety of Lycii Fructus, However, rarely studies focus on the rapid determination of these residues. Here, a total of 30 kinds of prohibited pesticide residues were determined by ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) in five different process ways. Pretreatment methods, chromatographic separation and detection conditions in mass spectrometry were all optimized accordingly. Among the five different pretreatment methods, the first and third solid phase extraction failed to provide high recoveries of sulfosulfuron compounds (both lower than 60%). Recovery of chlorphenamidine by the… More >

Determination of the Postmortem Interval Using Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors

    M. Adjailia1, H. Derbal Habak2,*, Y. Hamaizi1, H. Triki1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 831-844, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022162

Abstract Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors are often used in monitoring activities and to ensure that environmental parameters satisfy industrial requirements. They offer crucial safety measures in the early detection of hazards due to their greatly reduced size, low weight, flexibility, and immunity to electromagnetic interference. These characteristics make FBGs suitable also for use in relation to the human body for in vivo measurements and long-term monitoring. In this study, recent developments are presented with regard to the utilization of these sensors to measure the so-called post-mortem interval (PMI). Such developments rely on numerical simulations based on the Matlab software and… More >

Sand Production Prediction and Safe Differential Pressure Determination in a Deepwater Gas Field

    Hao Qiu1, Yi Wu1, Min Wen1, Xuesong Xing1, Zening Hou1, Nan Ma1, Zizhen Zhang2, Rui Zhang2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 579-592, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.020297

Abstract Sand production is a critical issue during the development of offshore oil and gas fields. Certain gas fields (e.g. the AB gas field) have high porosity and high permeability, and with water at the bottom of the reservoir, the risk of sand production greatly increases at high differential pressures. Based on reservoir properties, geological conditions, production requirements, and well logging data, in this study an ultrasonic time difference method, a B index method, and a S index method are used together with a model of rock mass failure (accounting for water influx and pressure depletion) to qualitatively predict sand production.… More >

    QING YIN1, CAIHONG LIU1, WENYING JIANG1, HAIHUI GONG1, CHUNYUN LI1,2,3,*, ZUPING HE1,2,3,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 33-39, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.023567

Abstract Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) is a downstream effector of the Hippo signaling pathway, and it is involved in tumorigenesis, tissue repair, growth, and development. In this review, the biological roles and the mechanisms of YAP1 in mediating stem cell fate decisions are discussed, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. In general, YAP1 promotes the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells, including embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. It inhibits apoptosis by binding to the transcription factors, e.g., transcriptional enhanced associate domain (TEAD), Smad, runt-related transcription factor 1/2, p73, p63, and Erb84, to maintain tissue homeostasis. The translocalization of YAP1… More >

Determination of the Cement Sheath Interface and the Causes of Failure in the Completion Stage of Gas Wells

    Xuesong Xing1, Renjun Xie1, Yi Wu1, Zhiqiang Wu1, Huanqiang Yang2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 1719-1735, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019799

    Abstract

The bonding quality of the cement sheath interface decreases during well completion because of the change in the casing pressure. To explore the root cause of such phenomena, experiments on the mechanical properties and interface bonding strength of a cement sheath have been carried out taking the LS25-1 high-temperature and high-pressure (HTHP) gas field as an example. Moreover, a constitutive model of the cement sheath has been defined and verified both by means of a full-scale HTHP cement sheath sealing integrity evaluation experiment and three-dimensional finite element simulations. The results show that the low initial cementing surface strength is the… More >

A Sensitive Wavebands Identification System for Smart Farming

    M. Kavitha*, M. Sujaritha

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.1, pp. 245-257, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.023320

Abstract Sensing the content of macronutrients in the agricultural soil is an essential task in precision agriculture. It helps the farmers in the optimal use of fertilizers. It reduces the cost of food production and also the negative environmental impacts on atmosphere and water bodies due to indiscriminate dosage of fertilizers. The traditional chemical-based laboratory soil analysis methods do not serve the purpose as they are hardly suitable for site specific soil management. Moreover, the spectral range used in the chemical-based laboratory soil analysis may be of 350–2500 nm, which leads to redundancy and confusion. Developing sensors based on the discovery of… More >

How to make the end of a gene, the simple way

    KAREL H. M. VAN WELY*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.6, pp. 1453-1457, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018939

Abstract Transcription termination of nearly all protein-coding genes in mammals requires 3’ end processing by a multiprotein complex that will cleave and polyadenylate the messenger RNA precursor. Because a variety of enzyme complexes intervene, 3’ end processing was thought to be fundamentally complex and subject to a multitude of regulatory effects. The possibility to select just one out of several polyadenylation sites, in particular, has caused much questioning and speculation. What appear to be separate mechanisms however can be combined into a defined set of rules, allowing for a relatively simple interpretation of 3’ end processing. Ultimately, readiness of the terminal… More >

Estimator-Based GPS Attitude and Angular Velocity Determination

    Dah-Jing Jwo*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 6107-6124, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.024722

Abstract In this paper, the estimator-based Global Positioning System (GPS) attitude and angular velocity determination is presented. Outputs of the attitude estimator include the attitude angles and attitude rates or body angular velocities, depending on the design of estimator. Traditionally as a position, velocity and time sensor, the GPS also offers a free attitude-determination interferometer. GPS research and applications to the field of attitude determination using carrier phase or Doppler measurement has been extensively conducted. The raw attitude solution using the interferometry technique based on the least-squares approach is inherently noisy. The estimator such as the Kalman filter (KF) or extended… More >

A Review of Test Methods for the Determination of the Permeability Coefficient of Gravelly Soils Used for Embankment Dams

    Zhenggang Zhan1, Han Chen2,3, Yanyi Zhang2,3, Ruilin Cheng1, Gang Deng2,3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 131-144, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017536

Abstract The factors influencing the permeability coefficient of gravelly soils used for the development of embankment dams (core wall) are analyzed. Such factors include (but are not limited to) soil size, anisotropy, density and boundary effects. A review of the literature is conducted and new directions of research are proposed. In such a framework, it is shown that gravelly soil with controlled density and vertical stress should be used to optimize the measurement of the vertical and horizontal permeability coefficients, respectively.
