Abstract The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) shows that there are 13.2% of children at the age of 11 to 17 who are suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), globally. The treatment methods for ADHD are either psycho-stimulant medications or cognitive therapy. These traditional methods, namely therapy, need a large number of visits to hospitals and include medication. Neurogames could be used for the effective treatment of ADHD. It could be a helpful tool in improving children and ADHD patients’ cognitive skills by using Brain–Computer Interfaces (BCI). BCI enables the user to interact with the computer through brain activity using… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 1269-1285, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.013303

Abstract In recent years, the infrastructure, instruments, and resources of network systems are becoming more complex and heterogeneous, with the rapid development of current internet and mobile communication technologies. In order to efficaciously prepare, control, hold and optimize networking systems, greater intelligence needs to be deployed. However, due to the inherently dispensed characteristic of conventional networks, Machine Learning (ML) techniques are hard to implement and deployed to govern and operate networks. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) brings us new possibilities to offer intelligence in the networks. SDN’s characteristics (e.g., logically centralized control, global network view, software-based site visitor analysis, and dynamic updating of… More >

Improved Channel Allocation Scheme for Cognitive Radio Networks

    Shahzad Latif1, Suhail Akraam2, Arif Jamal Malik3, Aaqif Afzaal Abbasi3, Muhammad Habib3, Sangsoon Lim4,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 103-114, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.014388

    Abstract

In recent years, wireless channel optimization technologies witnessed tremendous improvements. In this regard, research for developing wireless spectrum for accommodating a wider range of wireless devices increased. This also helped in resolving spectrum scarcity issues. Cognitive Radio (CR) is a type of wireless communication in which a transceiver can intelligently detect which communication channels are being used. To avoid interference, it instantly moves traffic into vacant channels by avoiding the occupied ones. Cognitive Radio (CR) technology showed the potential to deal with the spectrum shortage problem. The spectrum assignment is often considered as a key research challenge in Cognitive Radio… More >

Quantum Computational Techniques for Prediction of Cognitive State of Human Mind from EEG Signals

    Seth Aishwarya1, Vaishnav Abeer1,*, Babu B. Sathish1, K. N. Subramanya2

    Journal of Quantum Computing, Vol.2, No.4, pp. 157-170, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jqc.2020.015018

Abstract The utilization of quantum states for the representation of information and the advances in machine learning is considered as an efficient way of modeling the working of complex systems. The states of mind or judgment outcomes are highly complex phenomena that happen inside the human body. Decoding these states is significant for improving the quality of technology and providing an impetus to scientific research aimed at understanding the functioning of the human mind. One of the key advantages of quantum wave-functions over conventional classical models is the existence of configurable hidden variables, which provide more data density due to its… More >

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.22, No.4, pp. 271-282, 2020, DOI:10.32604/IJMHP.2020.014419

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of mind-body exercise (ME) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on addiction level and psychological well-being among college students with problematic smartphone use (PSU). Methods: A 12-week randomized controlled study was carried out at a university in central China. A total of 95 PSU college students who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to a ME group (ME, n = 31), CBT group (CBT, n = 30), or control group (CG, n = 34). Both ME intervention and CBT, twice per week for 90 min per session, lasting… More >

    Li Bao1, Xiaowei Tian2, Jing Zhang3, Li Chen4, Kui Gao5,*

    Oncologie, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 167-178, 2020, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2020.012495

Abstract Ulinastatin combined with dexmedetomidine can improve postoperative cognitive function and central nerve specific protein (S-100β) level in elderly colorectal cancer (CC) patients after laparoscopic. Altogether 178 elderly patients who underwent laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery in our hospital from February 2018 to August 2019 were selected and divided into two groups according to the treatment methods. Those anesthetized by dexmedetomidine were regarded as the routine group (RG, 83 cases), and those anesthetized by ulinastatin and dexmedetomidine were considered as the combined group (CG, 95 cases). The operation conditions of the two groups, the pain scores (VAS) at 4 h, 24 h… More >

Spectrum Allocation for Cognitive Radio Networks Using the Fireworks Algorithm

    Zhou Feng, Xue Weilian*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.33, No.4, pp. 275-286, 2018, DOI:10.32604/csse.2018.33.275

Abstract The fireworks algorithm features a small number of parameters, remarkable optimization ability, and resistance to a local optimum. Based on the graph coloring model, the fireworks algorithm is introduced for the first time to solve the spectrum allocation problem for cognitive radio networks, thus maximizing utility and fairness of spectrum allocation. Two-layer binary coding is adopted for individual fireworks. The first layer refers to the coding of cognitive users used to determine channels that can be connected with the user. The second layer refers to the auxiliary coding of channels responsible for addressing mutual interference among multiple cognitive users when… More >

An Efficient Optimized Handover in Cognitive Radio Networks Using Cooperative Spectrum Sensing

    H. Anandakumara, K. Umamaheswarib

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.4, pp. 843-849, 2018, DOI:10.1080/10798587.2017.1364931

Abstract Cognitive radio systems necessitate the incorporation of cooperative spectrum sensing among cognitive users to increase the reliability of detection. We have found that cooperative spectrum sensing is not only advantageous, but is also essential to avoid interference with any primary users. Interference by licensed users becomes a chief concern and issue, which affects primary as well as secondary users leading to restrictions in spectrum sensing in cognitive radios. When the number of cognitive users increases, the overheads of the systems, which are meant to report the sensing results to the common receiver, which becomes massive. When the spectrum, which is… More >
