    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 219-237, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025566

Abstract A suitable channel structure can lead to efficient gas distribution and significantly improve the power density of fuel cells. In this study, the influence of two channel design parameters is investigated, namely, the ratio of the channel width to the bipolar plate ridge width (i.e., the channel ridge ratio) and the channel depth. The impact of these parameters is evaluated with respect to the flow pattern, the gas composition distribution, the temperature field and the fuel cell output capability. The results show that a decrease in the channel ridge ratio and an increase in the channel depth can effectively make… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.6, pp. 1425-1445, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025282

Abstract Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are largely used in various applications because of their pollution-free products and high energy conversion efficiency. In order to improve the related design, in the present work a new spiral flow field with a bypass is proposed. The reaction gas enters the flow field in the central path and diffuses in two directions through the flow channel and the bypass. The bypasses are arranged incrementally. The number of bypasses and the cross-section size of the bypasses are varied parametrically while a single-cell model of the PEMFC is used. The influence of the concentration of… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract The economics, infrastructure, transportation, and level of living of a country are all influenced by energy. The gap between energy usage and availability is a global issue. Currently, all countries rely on fossil fuels for energy generation, and these fossil fuels are not sustainable. The hydrogen proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) power system is both clean and efficient. The fuel delivery system and the PEMFC make up the majority of the PEMFC power system. The lack of an efficient, safe, and cost-effective hydrogen storage system is still a major barrier to its widespread use. Solid hydrogen storage has the… More >

Wen Sun, Hao Liu, Ming Han, Ke Sun, Shuzhan Bai*, Guoxiang Li*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 867-882, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.018923

Abstract Fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles are currently being considered as ideal means to solve the energy crisis and global warming in today’s society. In this context, this paper proposes a method to solve the problem related to the dependence of the so-called optimal equivalent factor (determined in the framework of the equivalent consumption minimum strategy-ECMS) on the working conditions. The simulation results show that under typical conditions (some representative cities being considered), the proposed strategy can maintain the power balance; for different initial battery’s states of charge (SOC), after the SOC stabilizes, the fuel consumption is 5.25 L/100 km. Abstract Due to the uncertainty of renewable energy power generation and the non-linearity of load demand, it becomes complicated to determine the capacity of each device in hybrid renewable energy power generation systems. This work aims to optimize the capacity of two types of the off-grid hybrid wind-hydrogen energy system. We considered the maximum profit of the system and the minimum loss of power supply probability as optimization goals. Firstly, we established steady-state models of the wind turbine, alkaline electrolyzer, lead-acid battery, and proton exchange membrane fuel cell in matrix laboratory software to optimize the capacity. Secondly, we analyzed the operating… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 17-30, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.018380

Abstract Expert Systems are interactive and reliable computer-based decision-making systems that use both facts and heuristics for solving complex decision-making problems. Generally, the cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments are executed a random number of times (cycles) to get a stable production of power. However, presently there are not many algorithms or models for predicting the power generation stable criteria in microbial fuel cells. For stability analysis of Medicinal herbs’ CV profiles, an expert system driven by the augmented K-means clustering algorithm is proposed. Our approach requires a dataset that contains voltage-current relationships from CV experiments on the related subjects (plants/herbs). This new… More >
