    Photoprotective Effects of D1 Protein Turnover and the Lutein Cycle on Three Ephemeral Plants under Heat Stress

    Abstract To clarify the characteristics of photoinhibition and the primary defense mechanisms of ephemeral plant leaves against photodestruction under high temperature stress, inhibitors and the technology to determine chlorophyll fluorescence were used to explore the protective effects of D1 protein turnover and the lutein cycle in the high temperature stress of the leaves of three ephemeral plants. The results showed that the maximum light conversion efficiency (Fv/Fm) of the ephemeral plant leaves decreased, and the initial fluorescence (Fo) increased under 35°C ± 1°C heat stress for 1–4 h or on sunny days in the summer.     Abstract The ash mudstone in some oil formations is highly water-sensitive. The oil formation is fractured, and the risk of well leakage and collapse is not negligible. This study presents a countermeasure for well collapse prevention, based on a “force-chemistry synergistic balance” approach and the utilization of environmentally friendly and efficient hydration inhibitors. The relevance of this approach is demonstrated considering a drilling fluid system with the high potassium content.     Abstract Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been increasingly employed in the last decades in China for both preventing and treating a variety of cancers. 3-epi-bufotalin is an active ingredient of TCM “Chanpi” with anti-tumor potential. However, the effect and mechanism of 3-epi-bufotalin on colorectal cancers were not well disclosed. The present study demonstrated that 3-epi-bufotalin could reduce viability, trigger apoptosis, and block the cell cycle at the G2/M stage in colorectal cancer cell lines HT29, RKO, and COLO205 in vitro.     miR-186 Suppresses the Progression of Cholangiocarcinoma Cells Through Inhibition of Twist1

    Abstract Deregulation of miR-186 and Twist1 has been identified to be involved in the progression of multiple cancers. However, the detailed molecular mechanisms underlying miR-186-involved cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) are still unknown. In this study, we found that miR-186 was downregulated in CCA tissues and cell lines, and negatively correlated with the expression of Twist1 protein. In vitro assays demonstrated that miR-186 mimics repressed cell proliferation, in vivo tumor formation, and caused cell cycle arrest. miR-186 mimics also inhibited the migration and invasion of CCLP1 and SG-231 cells.     Abstract Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been acknowledged as important regulators in various human cancers. lncRNA MNX1-AS1 has been shown to be an oncogene in epithelial ovarian cancer. However, the function of MNX1-AS1 in glioblastoma (GBM) remains largely unknown. Here we found that the expression of MNX1-AS1 was significantly upregulated in GBM tissues and cell lines.
