Xiaoyong Gu*, Guohe Jiang, Yang Wo, Biwen Chen

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.15, pp. 1-8, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.15.3

Abstract The heat transfer characteristics of propylene glycol-water (PG-W) mixture with different concentrations in shell side of spiral wound heat exchanger (SWHE) with different geometric parameters were studied numerically. Experiment was carried out and the average difference between the simulated results and the experimental results was 5.3%. The simulation results show that heat transfer coefficient increases with the increase of center core diameter and longitudinal spacing of tubes, but decreases with the increase of tube outer diameter. The center core diameter and tube outer diameter have greater effects on heat transfer performances at higher concentration. Economic index was established and found… More >

Ali Chitsazana , Georg Kleppa, Birgit Glasmacherb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-7, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.15

Abstract The effect of surface curvature, number of jets, number of jet rows, jet arrangement, crossflow, and surface motion on the heat transfer and pressure force performance from multiple impinging round jets on the moving flat and curved surface have been numerically evaluated. The more number of jets (more than three jets) has no significant effect on the average heat transfer rate. The more number of jet rows increases the strength of wall jets interference and crossflow effects and degrade the average heat transfer rates. There is a minor difference between inline and staggered arrangements on both moving flat and curved… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-8, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.28

Abstract Tubes are commonly employed in heat exchangers for their ease of production and capacity to sustain high pressure. In this study, the heat and flow transfer behaviour of cam-shaped tube bank in staggered configuration at varying angles of attack 0°to 180° was numerically investigated. The study was carried out by solving the continuity, momentum, energy and realizable k-ε transport equations using the finite volume-based ANSYS Fluent solver. This was performed to acquire the friction factor and heat transfer characteristics in the air inlet velocity range of 9 to 15 m/s. The results showed that the cam-shaped tube bank at varying… More >

NUMERICAL STUDY ON HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS OF CORRUGATED TUBE PHASE CHANGE THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE UNIT

    Kun Zhanga,b,* , Zhiyong Lia,b, Jia Yaoa,b

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-8, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.5

Abstract Detailed numerical analysis is presented for heat transfer characteristics of charging or discharging process in phase change thermal energy storage unit with inner corrugated tube. The results indicated that the charging or discharging rate of phase change material (PCM) for the case of inner corrugated tube is obviously higher than that in unit with inner plain tube due to the increasing heat transfer surface. The heat transfer rate increase with the increasing mass flow rate. However, when the mass flow rate of heat transfer fluid (HTF) is greater than 0.0315kg/s, the charge and discharge time can not be obviously shorten… More >

Muhammad Amin Murada,*, Faraidun Hamasalhb, Hajar F. Ismaelc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.20, pp. 1-8, 2023, DOI:10.5098/hmt.20.7

Abstract In this paper, we study the behavior of heat transfer of Casson fluid at the magnetohydrodynamic stagnation point with thermal radiation over a continuous moving sheet. The appropriate similarity transfer is used to transfer the governing differential equations into the ordinary differential equation and then solved by the collocation method based on spline function. The obtained results are investigated with the existing literature by direct comparison. We found that an increment in the value of the shrinking parameter, magnetic parameter, and Casson fluid parameter enhances the velocity distribution and depreciate the temperature profile both Casson and Newtonian fluids. Furthermore, the… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.4, pp. 953-958, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022028

Abstract A study is presented on the feasibility of an approach based on the combination of Phase Change Materials (PCM) with metal walls in container-type houses. This line of research finds its motivations in recent trends in the energy and building sectors about energy consumption reduction. Another important objective concerns possible improvements in the comfort provided by such houses during the summer period. The results obtained through numerical solution of the governing equations accounting for heat transfer and latent heat effects associated with the PCM show that the indoor temperature can be reduced with a varying degree of success depending on… More >

Analysis of Heat Transport in a Powell-Eyring Fluid with Radiation and Joule Heating Effects via a Similarity Transformation

    Tahir Naseem1,2,*, Iqra Bibi1, Azeem Shahzad2, Mohammad Munir3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 663-677, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021136

Abstract Heat transfer in an Eyring-Powell fluid that conducts electricity and flows past an exponentially growing sheet is considered. As the sheet is stretched in the x direction, the flow develops in the region with y > 0. The problem is tackled through a set of partial differential equations accounting for Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), radiation and Joule heating effects, which are converted into a set of equivalent ordinary differential equations through a similarity transformation. The converted problem is solved in MATLAB in the framework a fourth order accurate integration scheme. It is found that the thermal relaxation period is inversely proportional to… More >

Experimental and Numerical Study on Progressive Collapse Analysis of a Glulam Frame Structure: I. Side Column Exposed to Fire

Xiaowu Cheng, Xinyan Tao, Lu Wang*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 905-920, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.023196

Abstract This paper presents experimental and numerical investigations on progressive collapse behavior of a two-story glulam frame when the side column is exposed to ISO834 standard fire. The collapse mechanism initiated by fire is identified. The experimental results show that the progressive collapse of a glulam frame could be described for three stages, namely bending effect stage, catenary effect stage and failure stage, respectively. These stages are discussed in detail to understand the structural behavior before and during collapse. It is demonstrated that the entire frame slopes towards the side of the heated column, and the “overturning” collapse occurs eventually. The… More >

    Mingkai Sun1,*, Yanan Wang2, Pingwei Jiang1, Zerong Song3, Zhan Gao4, Jiaming Xu5

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 643-668, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.022168

Abstract A composite rubber concrete (CRC) was designed by combining waste tire rubber particles with particle sizes of 3~5 mm, 1~3 mm and 20 mesh. Taking the rubber content of different particle sizes as the influencing factors, the range and variance analysis of the mechanical and impermeability properties of CRC was carried out by orthogonal test. Through analysis, it is concluded that the optimal proportion of 3~5 mm, 1~3 mm, and 20 mesh particle size composite rubber is 1:2.5:5. 5 kinds of CRC and 3 kinds of ordinary single-mixed rubber concrete (RC) with a total content of 10%~20% were designed under… More >

    Farah Zemani-Kaci*, Amina Sabeur-Bendhina

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 513-539, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021974

Abstract A two-dimensional numerical study of laminar natural convection in a square enclosure filled with air with a wall partially heated on the bottom is presented. The heat source is located on the lower wall with different heated widths varied from 20 to 80%(ε = 0.2–0.8) of the total width of the lower wall and different heights h = H/4 and H/2 of the partition. The effect of the partition height on the main system dynamics is investigated through solution of the two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations and the energy equation by means of a finite volume method based on the SIMPLE algorithm.… More > Graphic Abstract
