    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.6, pp. 1595-1609, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.017433

Abstract In the present study, the effect of injecting air bubble size on the thermal performance of a vertical counter-current shell and coiled tube heat exchanger is experimentally investigated. The experiments were accomplished in a cylindrical shape heat exchanger with a 50 cm height and 15 cm outer diameter. Copper coil with 3.939 m equivalent length and 0.6 cm outer diameter was used to carry the hot fluid (water). Four different cold fluid (shell side) flow rates under laminar flow conditions (316 ≤ Re ≤ 1223), constant hot (coil side) flow rate fluid rates , four different injected air flow rates , invariant… More >

    Himanshu1, Kunwar Pal2, Sanjeev Jain3, S. K. Tyagi1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.5, pp. 1237-1251, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.016489

Abstract A disruptive approach to a fundamental process has been applied in a biomass combustion device with two variable speed fans to supply air for gasification and another for combustion processes, separately. Besides, the preheating of secondary air, required for combustion process was also ensured through annulus chamber before being fed into the combustion chamber. The turbulent flow and homogenous mixing were also ensured by controlling the flow rate resulting in the reduced emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) and fine particulate matter (PM 2.5, particulate matter having aerodynamic diameter <2.5 micron). The design approach applied here has also ensured the homogeneous… More >

    Shidan Chi1, Tao Luan1,*, Yan Liang2, Xundong Hu2, Yan Gao3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.1, pp. 71-80, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.013178

Abstract Improving the primary steam parameters is one of the most direct ways to improve the cycle efficiency of a power generation system. In the present study, the typical problem connected to the excessively high superheat degree of extraction steam in an ultra-supercritical (USC) double-reheat unit is considered. Using a 1000 MW power plant as an example, two systems (case 1 and case 2) are proposed, both working in combination with a regenerative steam turbine. The thermal performances of these two systems are compared with that of the original system through a heat balance method and an exergy balance strategy. The… More >

    Chanita Mano, Atthakorn Thongtha*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.3, pp. 495-506, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.013201

Abstract This work focused on characterizing and improving the thermal behavior of metal sheet roofing. To decrease the heat transfer from the roof into a building, we investigated the efficiency of four types of phase change materials, with different melting points: PCM І, PCM II, PCM III and PCM IV, when used in conjunction with a sheet metal roof. The exterior metal roofing surface temperature was held constant at 50°C, 60°C, 70°C and 80°C, using a thermal source (halogen lights) for 360 min to investigate and compare the thermal performance of the metal sheet roofing with and without phase change materials… More >

    Adnan1, Umar Khan2, Naveed Ahmed3, Syed Tauseef Mohyud-Din4, Ilyas Khan5,*, El-Sayed M. Sherif6,7

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 477-489, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012739

Abstract The investigation of local thermal transport rate in the nanolubricants is significant. These lubricants are broadly used in environmental pollution, mechanical engineering and in the paint industry due to high thermal performance rate. Therefore, thermal transport in ZnO-SAE50 nanolubricant under the impacts of heat generation/absorption is conducted. The colloidal suspension is flowing between parallel stretching disks in which the lower disk is positioned at z = 0 and upper disk apart from distance d. The problem is transformed in dimensionless version via described similarity transforms. In the next stage, an analytical technique (VPM) is implemented for the solution purpose. The… More >

Performance Assessment of Heat Exchangers for Process Heat Integration

    Fenwicks Shombe Musonye1,*, Hiram Ndiritu2, Robert Kinyua3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.2, pp. 211-224, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.013890

Abstract Pinch Analysis is an attractive solution for reduction of thermal energy costs in thermo-chemical industries. In this approach, maximum internally recoverable heat is determined and a heat exchange network is designed to meet the recovery targets. The thermal performance of a heat exchanger over its lifetime is however a concern to industries. Thermal performance of a heat exchanger is affected by many factors which include the physical properties of the shell and tube materials, and the chemical properties of the heat transfer fluid. In this study, thermal performance of shell and tube heat exchangers designed to meet heat recovery targets… More >

    Adnan1, Umar Khan2, Naveed Ahmed3, Syed Tauseef Mohyud-Din4, Ilyas Khan5,*, Dumitru Baleanu6,7,8, Kottakkaran Sooppy Nisar9

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1563-1576, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012326

Abstract Thermal transport investigation in colloidal suspensions is taking a significant research direction. The applications of these fluids are found in various industries, engineering, aerodynamics, mechanical engineering and medical sciences etc. A huge amount of thermal transport is essential in the operation of various industrial production processes. It is a fact that conventional liquids have lower thermal transport characteristics as compared to colloidal suspensions. The colloidal suspensions have high thermal performance due to the thermophysical attributes of the nanoparticles and the host liquid. Therefore, researchers focused on the analysis of the heat transport in nanofluids under diverse circumstances. As such, the… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.1, pp. 947-960, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012430

Abstract The investigation of Thermal performance in nanofluids and hybrid nanofluids over a curved stretching infinite region strengthens its roots in engineering and industry. Therefore, the comparative thermal analysis in SiO2–H2O and (MoS2–SiO2)–H2O is conducted over curved stretching surface. The model is reduced in the dimensional version via similarity transformation and then treated numerically. The velocity and thermal behavior for both the fluids is decorated against the preeminent parameters. From the analysis, it is examined that the motion of under consideration fluids declines against Fr and λ. The thermal performance enhances for higher volumetric fraction and λ. Further, it is noticed… More >
