Incentive-Driven Approach for Misbehavior Avoidance in Vehicular Networks

    Shahid Sultan1, Qaisar Javaid1, Eid Rehman2,*, Ahmad Aziz Alahmadi3, Nasim Ullah3, Wakeel Khan4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 6089-6106, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021374 - 11 October 2021

Abstract For efficient and robust information exchange in the vehicular ad-hoc network, a secure and trusted incentive reward is needed to avoid and reduce the intensity of misbehaving nodes and congestion especially in the case where the periodic beacons exploit the channel. In addition, we cannot be sure that all vehicular nodes eagerly share their communication assets to the system for message dissemination without any rewards. Unfortunately, there may be some misbehaving nodes and due to their selfish and greedy approach, these nodes may not help others on the network. To deal with this challenge, trust-based… More >

    Ahmad Adel Abu-Shareha*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.2, pp. 719-734, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.018369 - 09 September 2021

Abstract This paper proposed an Integrated Random Early Detection (IRED) method that aims to resolve the problems of the queue-based AQM and load-based AQM and gain the benefits of both using indicators from both types. The arrival factor (e.g., arrival rate, queue and capacity) and the departure factors are used to estimate the congestion through two integrated indicators. The utilized indicators are mathematically calculated and integrated to gain unified and coherent congestion indicators. Besides, IRED is built based on a new dropping calculation approach that fits the utilized congestion indicators while maintaining the intended buffer management More >

Effectively Handling Network Congestion and Load Balancing in Software-Defined Networking

    Shabir Ahmad1, Faisal Jamil2, Abid Ali3, Ehtisham Khan4, Muhammad Ibrahim2, Taeg Keun Whangbo1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1363-1379, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.017715 - 07 September 2021

Abstract The concept of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) evolves to overcome the drawbacks of the traditional networks with Internet Protocol (I.P.) packets sending and packets handling. The SDN structure is one of the critical advantages of efficiently separating the data plane from the control plane to manage the network configurations and network management. Whenever there are multiple sending devices inside the SDN network, the OpenFlow switches are programmed to handle the limited number of requests for their interface. When the recommendations are exceeded from the specific threshold, the load on the switches also increases. This research article… More >

Optimizing Traffic Signals in Smart Cities Based on Genetic Algorithm

    Nagham A. Al-Madi*, Adnan A. Hnaif

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.1, pp. 65-74, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.016730 - 26 August 2021

Abstract Current traffic signals in Jordan suffer from severe congestion due to many factors, such as the considerable increase in the number of vehicles and the use of fixed timers, which still control existing traffic signals. This condition affects travel demand on the streets of Jordan. This study aims to improve an intelligent road traffic management system (IRTMS) derived from the human community-based genetic algorithm (HCBGA) to mitigate traffic signal congestion in Amman, Jordan’s capital city. The parameters considered for IRTMS are total time and waiting time, and fixed timers are still used for control. By More >

    Daniel Godfrey1, Beom-Su Kim1, Haoran Miao1, Babar Shah2, Bashir Hayat3, Imran Khan4, Tae-Eung Sung5, Ki-Il Kim1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.3, pp. 3671-3692, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017475 - 06 May 2021

Abstract The end-to-end delay in a wired network is strongly dependent on congestion on intermediate nodes. Among lots of feasible approaches to avoid congestion efficiently, congestion-aware routing protocols tend to search for an uncongested path toward the destination through rule-based approaches in reactive/incident-driven and distributed methods. However, these previous approaches have a problem accommodating the changing network environments in autonomous and self-adaptive operations dynamically. To overcome this drawback, we present a new congestion-aware routing protocol based on a Q-learning algorithm in software-defined networks where logically centralized network operation enables intelligent control and management of network resources.… More >

Mosleh M. Abualhaj*, Abdelrahman H. Hussein, Qasem M. Kharma, Qusai Y. Shambour

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.38, No.2, pp. 251-263, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015787 - 23 April 2021

Abstract A considerable number of applications are running over IP networks. This increased the contention on the network resource, which ultimately results in congestion. Active queue management (AQM) aims to reduce the serious consequences of network congestion in the router buffer and its negative effects on network performance. AQM methods implement different techniques in accordance with congestion indicators, such as queue length and average queue length. The performance of the network is evaluated using delay, loss, and throughput. The gap between congestion indicators and network performance measurements leads to the decline in network performance. Deep Trajectory Classification Model for Congestion Detection in Human Crowds

    Emad Felemban1, Sultan Daud Khan2, Atif Naseer3, Faizan Ur Rehman4,*, Saleh Basalamah1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 705-725, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015085 - 22 March 2021

Abstract In high-density gatherings, crowd disasters frequently occur despite all the safety measures. Timely detection of congestion in human crowds using automated analysis of video footage can prevent crowd disasters. Recent work on the prevention of crowd disasters has been based on manual analysis of video footage. Some methods also measure crowd congestion by estimating crowd density. However, crowd density alone cannot provide reliable information about congestion. This paper proposes a deep learning framework for automated crowd congestion detection that leverages pedestrian trajectories. The proposed framework divided the input video into several temporal segments. We then More >
