    Oncology Research, Vol.30, No.2, pp. 65-76, 2022, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.026659

Abstract The controversial outcomes in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) highlight the need for developing effective systemic neoadjuvant treatment strategies to improve clinical results. The optimal treatment cycles in patients with mCRC for metastasectomy remain undefined. This retrospective study compared the efficacy, safety, and survival of cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy/targeted therapy for such patients. Sixty-four patients with mCRC who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy/targeted therapy following metastasectomy were enrolled between January 2018 and April 2022. Twenty-eight patients received 6 cycles of chemotherapy/targeted therapy, whereas 36 patients received ≥7 cycles (median, 13; range, 7–20). Clinical outcomes, including response, progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival… More >

    Fei Wang1, Jihyun Ma2, Nan Zhao3, Chi Lin3,*, Haixing Jiang1,*

    Oncologie, Vol.24, No.4, pp. 865-895, 2022, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2022.025447

Abstract Objective: The characteristics of clinical features and prognoses among patients with different racial backgrounds have not been clearly studied. We thus investigated the clinical characteristics and overall survival (OS) differences among Asian, White, and Black patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs). Materials and Methods: The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was queried to identify patients with pNETs between 1983 and 2015. We performed univariable (UVA) and multivariable logistic regression (MVA) to assess the association between variables and race category. A Kaplan-Meier (KM) plot was used to calculate the OS rates. The Cox proportional hazard regression was used to… More >

Anna Szabina Szele1,*, Beáta Erika Nagy2

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.5, pp. 699-709, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.021809

Abstract Preterm and low birth weight infants are at higher risk of neurodevelopmental outcomes; breastfeeding offers several beneficial aspects for them. This study aimed to describe the average neurodevelopmental outcomes of preterm infants and examine the associations between neurodevelopment and breastfeeding among Hungarian preterm infants at 12 months of corrected age. 154 preterm infants with low birth weight (<2500 g) and their mothers were participated in this study. Bayley-III Screening Test (Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development Screening Test, Third Edition) was administered to measure the cognitive, language and motor skills of infants; breastfeeding data was obtained through parental anamnesis. Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.17, No.4, pp. 463-478, 2022, DOI:10.32604/chd.2022.021545

Abstract Background: Congenital coronary artery fistula (CCAF) is a rare anomaly. Treatment strategies tend to close the defect with a symptomatic and significant shunt, primarily based on expert consensus and case series. Results for long-term follow-up in children are limited Methods: We conducted a retrospective study to assess clinical and imaging outcomes of children with CCAF at Siriraj Hospital, Thailand during 2000–2020. Patients with single ventricle were excluded. Treatment strategies [surgical closure (SC), and percutaneous closure (PC)] were classified and the clinical outcomes at the follow-up in 2021, including coronary thrombosis, myocardial ischemia, and the results of cardiovascular imaging were reviewed.… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Leukemia relapse 5 years after achieving first complete remission (CR1) is uncommon in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In this study, we evaluated the outcomes of AML patients with late relapse at our institution and reviewed the literature for these patients. The study cohort consisted of nine AML patients with late relapse. The median interval between CR1 and AML relapse was 6.1 years (range: 5.1–16.2 years). At relapse, the karyotype was different from the initial AML diagnosis in 50% of patients. At the time of AML relapse, seven patients received induction chemotherapy and two patients received hypomethylating agents with… More >

Abstract This nonrandomized, multicenter cohort, open-label clinical trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of combined chemotherapy with arsenic trioxide (ATO) in children with stage 4/M neuroblastoma (NB). We enrolled patients who were newly diagnosed with NB and assessed as stage 4/M and received either traditional chemotherapy or ATO combined with chemotherapy according to their own wishes. Twenty-two patients were enrolled in the trial group (ATO combined with chemotherapy), and 13 patients were enrolled in the control group (traditional chemotherapy). Objective response rate (ORR) at 4 weeks after completing induction chemotherapy was defined as the main outcome, and adverse events were monitored… More >

Abstract The purpose of the current investigations is to solve the nonlinear dynamics based on the nervous stomach model (NSM) using the supervised neural networks (SNNs) along with the novel features of Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation technique (LMBT), i.e., SNNs-LMBT. The SNNs-LMBT is implemented with three different types of sample data, authentication, testing and training. The ratios for these statistics to solve three different variants of the nonlinear dynamics of the NSM are designated 75% for training, 15% for validation and 10% for testing, respectively. For the numerical measures of the nonlinear dynamics of the NSM, the Runge-Kutta scheme is implemented to form… More >

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.2, pp. 143-158, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.020075

Abstract In recent years evidence has emerged suggesting that Mini-basketball training program (MBTP) can be an effective intervention method to improve social communication (SC) impairments and restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRBs) in preschool children suffering from autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, there is a considerable degree if interindividual variability concerning these social outcomes and thus not all preschool children with ASD profit from a MBTP intervention to the same extent. In order to make more accurate predictions which preschool children with ASD can benefit from an MBTP intervention or which preschool children with ASD need additional interventions to achieve behavioral improvements,… More >

Short Text Mining for Classifying Educational Objectives and Outcomes

    Yousef Asiri*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.41, No.1, pp. 35-50, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.020100

Abstract Most of the international accreditation bodies in engineering education (e.g., ABET) and outcome-based educational systems have based their assessments on learning outcomes and program educational objectives. However, mapping program educational objectives (PEOs) to student outcomes (SOs) is a challenging and time-consuming task, especially for a new program which is applying for ABET-EAC (American Board for Engineering and Technology the American Board for Engineering and Technology—Engineering Accreditation Commission) accreditation. In addition, ABET needs to automatically ensure that the mapping (classification) is reasonable and correct. The classification also plays a vital role in the assessment of students’ learning. Since the PEOs are… More >
