Identification of Type of a Fault in Distribution System Using Shallow Neural Network with Distributed Generation

Saurabh Awasthi*, Gagan Singh, Nafees Ahamad

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.4, pp. 811-829, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.026863

Abstract A distributed generation system (DG) has several benefits over a traditional centralized power system. However, the protection area in the case of the distributed generator requires special attention as it encounters stability loss, failure re-closure, fluctuations in voltage, etc. And thereby, it demands immediate attention in identifying the location & type of a fault without delay especially when occurred in a small, distributed generation system, as it would adversely affect the overall system and its operation. In the past, several methods were proposed for classification and localisation of a fault in a distributed generation system. Many of those methods were… More >

A Joint Optimization Algorithm for Renewable Energy System

Imran Khan1, Firdaus Muhammad-Sukki2, Jorge Alfredo Ardila Rey3, Abdullahi Abubakar Mas’ud4, Saud Jazaa Alshammari4, Dag Øivind Madsen5,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1979-1989, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.034106

Abstract Energy sustainability is a hot topic in both scientific and political circles. To date, two alternative approaches to this issue are being taken. Some people believe that increasing power consumption is necessary for countries’ economic and social progress, while others are more concerned with maintaining carbon consumption under set limitations. To establish a secure, sustainable, and economical energy system while mitigating the consequences of climate change, most governments are currently pushing renewable growth policies. Energy markets are meant to provide consumers with dependable electricity at the lowest possible cost. A profit-maximization optimal decision model is created in the electric power… More >

Machine Learning-based Electric Load Forecasting for Peak Demand Control in Smart Grid

    Manish Kumar1,2,*, Nitai Pal1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 4785-4799, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.032971

Abstract Increasing energy demands due to factors such as population, globalization, and industrialization has led to increased challenges for existing energy infrastructure. Efficient ways of energy generation and energy consumption like smart grids and smart homes are implemented to face these challenges with reliable, cheap, and easily available sources of energy. Grid integration of renewable energy and other clean distributed generation is increasing continuously to reduce carbon and other air pollutants emissions. But the integration of distributed energy sources and increase in electric demand enhance instability in the grid. Short-term electrical load forecasting reduces the grid fluctuation and enhances the robustness… More >

    Mohamed Elnagi1, Salah Kamel2, Abdelhady Ramadan2, Mohamed F. Elnaggar3,4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 5229-5250, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032469

Abstract Renewable energy sources are gaining popularity, particularly photovoltaic energy as a clean energy source. This is evident in the advancement of scientific research aimed at improving solar cell performance. Due to the non-linear nature of the photovoltaic cell, modeling solar cells and extracting their parameters is one of the most important challenges in this discipline. As a result, the use of optimization algorithms to solve this problem is expanding and evolving at a rapid rate. In this paper, a weIghted meaN oF vectOrs algorithm (INFO) that calculates the weighted mean for a set of vectors in the search space has… More >

Engine Performance Using Blended Fuels of Biodiesel and Eco Diesel

    Muhammad Idris1,*, I. Husin2, Indra Hermawan1, Uun Novalia3, R. D. Batubara1, Nugroho Agung Pambudi4,*, Alfan Sarifudin4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.1, pp. 107-123, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.019203

Abstract Diesel engines is an internal combustion engine with high thermal efficiency, which also uses biodiesel fuel, an environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and low sulfur content. Biodiesel has been around for a long time due to its similar characteristics to diesel fuels which has limited availability. However, several disadvantages are associated with biodiesel, such as poor volatility and high viscosity, which reduces engine performance. Therefore, this study was carried out to improve the diesel engine performance by mixing biodiesel with ecodiesel (ED), an additive produced from natural ingredients that is dissolvable in biodiesel. The biodiesel fuel properties used are  density 860 kg/, dynamic… More >

Graphene-Based Active Tunable Metasurfaces for Dynamic Terahertz Absorption and Polarization Conversion

Haoran Wei, Tian Ji, Jianqing Huang*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 731-743, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.022283

Abstract Simultaneous broadband absorption and polarization conversion are crucial in many practical applications, especially in terahertz communications. Thus, actively tunable metamaterial systems can exploit the graphene-based nanomaterials derived from renewable resources because of the flexible surface conductivity and selective permeability of the nanomaterials at terahertz frequencies. In this paper, we propose a graphene-based active tunable bifunctional metasurface for dynamic terahertz absorption and polarization conversion. The graphene ring presents a certain opening angle (A) along the diagonal of the xoy plane. When A = 0°, the proposed metasurface behaves as a broadband absorber. Numerical results show the feasibility of achieving this polarization-insensitive… More >

Enhancement of Large Renewable Distributed Generation Penetration Levels at the Point of Common Coupling

Akinyemi Ayodeji Stephen*, Kabeya Musasa, Innocent Ewean Davidson

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.6, pp. 2711-2744, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.023069

Abstract The occurrence of distortion and over voltage at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) of Renewable Distributed Generation (RDG) limits its penetration levels to the power system and the RDG integration is expected to play a crucial role in power system transformation. For its penetrations to be sustained without disconnection from the system, there must be a solution to the voltage rise, distortion, unbalanced current and grid reactive power control strategy at PCC. It is an IEEE-1547 requirement that RDG integration to the power system should be regulated at PCC to avoid disconnection from the network due to power quality… More > Graphic Abstract

    Arne Rüdiger1,2, Peter Hendil-Forssell3, Cecilia Hedfors3, Mats Martinelle3, Stacy Trey4,5,*, Mats Johansson1,4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 124-140, 2013, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2012.634109

Abstract The present study describes the use of an epoxy functional fatty acid, 9,10-epoxy-18-hydroxyoctadecanoic acid (EFA), extracted from birch (Betula pendula) outer bark to produce thermosets. The purifi ed epoxy fatty acid was polymerized by enzyme-catalyzed polycondensation utilizing Candida antarctica lipase B (CalB) to form oligomers with targeted degrees of polymerization (DP) of 3, 6, and 9 and obtained DPs of 2.3, 5.9 and 7.3, respectively. It was determined that it is possible to fi rst enzymatically polymerize and aliphatically endcap the epoxy functional fatty acid resulting in controlled oligomer lengths while also maintaining the epoxy functionality for further reaction by… More >
