FUNDAMENTALS AND APPLICATIONS OF NEAR-FIELD RADIATIVE ENERGY TRANSFER

    Keunhan Parka,∗, Zhuomin Zhangb

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 1-26, 2013, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v4.1.3001

Abstract This article reviews the recent advances in near-field radiative energy transfer, particularly in its fundamentals and applications. When the geometrical features of radiating objects or their separating distances fall into the sub-wavelength range, near-field phenomena such as photon tunneling and surface polaritons begin to play a key role in energy transfer. The resulting heat transfer rate can greatly exceed the blackbody radiation limit by several orders magnitude. This astonishing feature cannot be conveyed by the conventional theory of thermal radiation, generating strong demands in fundamental research that can address thermal radiation in the near field. Important breakthroughs of near-field thermal… More >

Abstract Visible light communication (VLC) has a paramount role in industrial implementations, especially for better energy efficiency, high speed-data rates, and low susceptibility to interference. However, since studies on VLC for industrial implementations are in scarcity, areas concerning illumination optimisation and communication performances demand further investigation. As such, this paper presents a new modelling of light fixture distribution for a warehouse model to provide acceptable illumination and communication performances. The proposed model was evaluated based on various semi-angles at half power (SAAHP) and different height levels for several parameters, including received power, signal to noise ratio (SNR), and bit error rate… More >

Abstract The exponential growth in the development of smartphones and handheld devices is permeated due to everyday activities i.e., games applications, entertainment, online banking, social network sites, etc., and also allow the end users to perform a variety of activities. Because of activities, mobile devices attract cybercriminals to initiate an attack over a diverse range of malicious activities such as theft of unauthorized information, phishing, spamming, Distributed Denial of Services (DDoS), and malware dissemination. Botnet applications are a type of harmful attack that can be used to launch malicious activities and has become a significant threat in the research area. A… More >

RECENT PROGRESS ON EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH OF CRYOGENIC TRANSPORT LINE CHILLDOWN PROCESS

    J. N. Chung*, Kun Yuan

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.6, pp. 1-7, 2015, DOI:10.5098/hmt.6.1

Abstract Chilldown or quenching is a complicated process that initiates the cryogenic fluid line transport, and it involves unsteady two-phase heat and mass transfer. To advance our understanding of this process, we have reviewed recent experimental investigations. The chilldown process can be generally divided into three regimes: film boiling, transition boiling and nucleate boiling, and each regime is associated with a different flow pattern and heat transfer mechanism. Under low flow rate conditions, it is concluded that the two-phase flow regime is dispersed flow in the film boiling regime. The dispersed liquid phase is in the form of long filaments as… More >

Abstract Recently, nano-systems based on molecular communications via diffusion (MCvD) have been implemented in a variety of nanomedical applications, most notably in targeted drug delivery system (TDDS) scenarios. Furthermore, because the MCvD is unreliable and there exists molecular noise and inter symbol interference (ISI), cooperative nano-relays can acquire the reliability for drug delivery to targeted diseased cells, especially if the separation distance between the nano transmitter and nano receiver is increased. In this work, we propose an approach for optimizing the performance of the nano system using cooperative molecular communications with a nano relay scheme, while accounting for blood flow effects… More >

    Adekunle A. Adeleke1,*, Nzerem Petrus2, Salihu Ayuba2, Asmau M. Yahya2, Peter P. Ikubanni3, Ikechuckwu S. Okafor2, Stephen S. Emmanuel4, Adebayo I. Olosho4, Ademidun A. Adesibikan4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.12, pp. 4123-4141, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.043915

Abstract Nigeria, often referred to as “the giant of Africa,” boasts a sizable population, a thriving economy, and abundant energy resources. Nevertheless, Nigeria has yet to fully harness its renewable energy potential, despite its enormous capacity in this field. The goal of this review paper is to thoroughly examine the difficulties and untapped opportunities in utilizing biomass for bioenergy production in Nigeria. Notably, Nigeria generates substantial volumes of biomass annually, primarily in the form of agricultural waste, which is often either discarded or burned inefficiently, resulting in significant ecological and environmental damage. Therefore, an efficient approach to reducing pollution and transforming… More > Graphic Abstract

Jet Characteristics and Optimization of a Cavitation Nozzle for Hydraulic Fracturing Applications

    Yu Gao1, Zhenqiang Xu2,3,*, Kaixiang Shen2,3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 179-192, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.030499

Abstract Hydraulic jetting is a form of fracturing that involves using a high-pressure jet of water to create fractures in the reservoir rock with a nozzle serving as the central component of the hydraulic sandblasting perforation tool. In this study, the flow behavior of the nozzle is simulated numerically in the framework of a SST k-ω turbulence model. The results show that the nozzle structure can significantly influence the jet performance and related cavitation effect. Through orthogonal experiments, the nozzle geometric parameters are optimized, and the following configuration is found accordingly: contraction angle 20°, contraction segment length 6 mm, cylindrical segment… More >

Optimal Concentration of the Bubble Drainage Agent in Foam Drainage Gas Recovery Applications

    Shaopeng Liu1, Guowei Wang2,3,*, Pengfei Liu1, Dong Ye1, Jian Song1, Xing Liu1, Yang Cheng2,3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.12, pp. 3045-3058, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029810

Abstract Foam drainage is the flow of liquid through the interstitial spaces between bubbles driven by capillarity and gravity and resisted by viscous damping. The so-called foam drainage gas recovery technology is a technique traditionally used to mitigate the serious bottom-hole liquid loading in the middle and late stages of gas well production. In this context, determining the optimal concentration of the bubble drainage agent is generally crucial for the proper application of this method. In this study, a combination of indoor experiments and theoretical analysis have been used to determine the pressure drop related to the foam-carrying capacity in a… More >

    Zhongshuai Chen1,2, Hongjian Ni1,*, Xueliang Pei2, Yu Gao3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.12, pp. 2953-2963, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.029491

Abstract The actuator is a key component of the creaming tool in drilling applications. Its jet performances determine the effective reaming efficiency. In this work, a new selective reaming tool is proposed and the RNG k-ε turbulence model is used to calculate its internal and external flow fields. In particular, special attention is paid to the design of the flushing nozzle. The results show that the jet originating from the flushing nozzle has a significant influence on rock cutting and blade cooling effects. In turn, the jet performances depend on geometric structure of the creaming actuator. In this framework, a conical-cylindrical… More >
