Abstract In recent days, internet of things is widely implemented in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). It comprises of sensor hubs associated together through the WSNs. The WSN is generally affected by the power in battery due to the linked sensor nodes. In order to extend the lifespan of WSN, clustering techniques are used for the improvement of energy consumption. Clustering methods divide the nodes in WSN and form a cluster. Moreover, it consists of unique Cluster Head (CH) in each cluster. In the existing system, Soft-K means clustering techniques are used in energy consumption in WSN. More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 1455-1472, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023058 - 24 March 2022

Abstract A new energy management technique with aid of Controller Area Network (CAN) bus for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is proposed in this research. HEV is a type of hybrid vehicle that combines with an electric propulsion system a conventional internal combustion engine system. The electric powertrain operation is intended to achieve greater fuel economy than a conventional vehicle. To accurately distribute power from one of the battery sources, the Energy Management System determines the reference speed for the electric motor drive and the internal combustion engine. The Proportional and Integral (PI) controller is used to More >

In analyzing the performance of the renewable energy sector, the data envelopment analysis (DEA) with an undesirable output model approach has been widely utilized to measure the efficiency of peer units compared with the best practice frontier. We consider four inputs and two outputs to a More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.7, pp. 1529-1542, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.019368 - 14 March 2022

Abstract Soil potentially hazardous metal (PHM) is continually attracting public attention worldwide, due to its highly toxic properties and potentially huge damage to human being through food chain. Phytoremediation is an effective and eco-friendly way in remediation technology. A pot experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of different organic materials (biogas residue (BR), mushroom residue (MR), and bamboo-shoot shell (BS)) application on phytoremediation of two PHM-contaminated soils (Fuyang soil as ‘heavily-polluted soil’ and Wenzhou soil as ‘moderately-polluted soil’, respectively) by Sedum alfrecdii Hance. The results indicated: 1) for moderately-polluted soil, the 5% BR treatment had… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.1, pp. 1561-1578, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026074 - 24 February 2022

Abstract With the help of network densification, network coverage as well as the throughput can be improved via ultra-dense networks (UDNs). In tandem, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) communications have recently garnered much attention because of their high agility as well as widespread applications. In this paper, a cognitive UAV is proposed for wireless nodes power pertaining to the IoT ground terminal. Further, the UAV is included in the IoT system as the source of power for the wireless nodes as well as for resource allocation. The quality of service (QoS) related to the cognitive node was… More >

Energy-Efficient Static Data Collector-based Scheme in Smart Cities

    Adel D. Rajab*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.1, pp. 2077-2092, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.025736 - 24 February 2022

Abstract In the Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart city applications, employing the Data Collectors (DC) as the data brokers between the nodes and Base Station (BS) can be a promising solution to enhance the energy efficiency of energy-constrained IoT sensor nodes. There are several schemes that utilize mobile DCs to collect the data packets from sensor nodes. However, moving DCs along the hundreds of thousands of sensors sparsely distributed across a smart city is considered a design challenge in such schemes. Another concern lies in how these mobile DCs are being powered. Therefore, to overcome these… More >

Abstract Snake Robots (SR) have been successfully deployed and proved to attain bio-inspired solutions owing to its capability to move in harsh environments, a characteristic not found in other kinds of robots (like wheeled or legged robots). Underwater Snake Robots (USR) establish a bioinspired solution in the domain of underwater robotics. It is a key challenge to increase the motion efficiency in underwater robots, with respect to forwarding speed, by enhancing the locomotion method. At the same time, energy efficiency is also considered as a crucial issue for long-term automation of the systems. In this aspect,… More >

Abstract Line-of-sight clarity and assurance are essential because they are considered the golden rule in wireless network planning, allowing the direct propagation path to connect the transmitter and receiver and retain the strength of the signal to be received. Despite the increasing literature on the line of sight with different scenarios, no comprehensive study focuses on the multiplicity of parameters and basic concepts that must be taken into account when studying such a topic as it affects the results and their accuracy. Therefore, this research aims to find limited values that ensure that the signal reaches… More >

A Resource-Efficient Convolutional Neural Network Accelerator Using Fine-Grained Logarithmic Quantization

    Hadee Madadum*, Yasar Becerikli

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.2, pp. 681-695, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023831 - 08 February 2022

Abstract Convolutional Neural Network (ConNN) implementations on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) are being studied since the computational capabilities of FPGA have been improved recently. Model compression is required to enable ConNN deployment on resource-constrained FPGA devices. Logarithmic quantization is one of the efficient compression methods that can compress a model to very low bit-width without significant deterioration in performance. It is also hardware-friendly by using bitwise operations for multiplication. However, the logarithmic suffers from low resolution at high inputs due to exponential properties. Therefore, we propose a modified logarithmic quantization method with a fine resolution More >

    K. Saravanan1,*, G. M. Tamilselvan2, A. Rajendran3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.42, No.3, pp. 1063-1077, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.020789 - 08 February 2022

Abstract As huge users are involved, there is a difficulty in spectrum allocation and scheduling in Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs). Collision increases when there is no allocation of spectrum and these results in huge drop rate and network performance degradation. To solve these problems and allocate appropriate spectrum, a novel method is introduced termed as Quality of Service (QoS) Improvement Proper Scheduling (QIPS). The major contribution of the work is to design a new cross layer QoS Aware Scheduling based on Loss-based Proportional Fairness with Multihop (QoSAS-LBPFM). In Medium Access Control (MAC) multi-channel network environment mobile More >
