    CHUNLING LIANG1,#, JING CHEN2,#, XIAOJIE CHEN1, WEI YAN3, JIE YU4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.7, pp. 1105-1113, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.050509 - 03 July 2024

Abstract Background: A differential gene, triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM1), was identified in blood sequencing datasets from myocardial infarction patients and healthy controls. Myocardial fibrosis following myocardial infarction significantly contributes to cardiac dysfunction. Objectives: This study aimed to unveil the intrinsic regulatory mechanism of TREM1 in myocardial fibrosis. Methods: Mimicking pathology by angiotensin II (Ang II) treatment of human cardiac fibroblasts (HCFs), the impacts of TREM1 knockdown on its proliferation, migration, and secretion of the pro-fibrotic matrix were identified. Using the Human Transcription Factor Database (HumanTFDB) website, lysine-specific demethylase 5B (KDM5B) was found to… More >

Abstract Background: Inhibitor of NF-κB kinase-interacting protein (IKIP) is known to promote proliferation of glioblastoma (GBM) cells, but how it affects migration and invasion by those cells is unclear. Methods: We compared levels of IKIP between glioma tissues and normal brain tissue in clinical samples and public databases. We examined the effects of IKIP overexpression and knockdown on the migration and invasion of GBM using transwell and wound healing assays, and we compared the transcriptomes under these different conditions to identify the molecular mechanisms involved. Results: Based on data from our clinical samples and from public databases, More >

Does Parental Migration Affect Left-Behind Children’s Social Anxiety? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Yao Wang1, Xiaojiao Li2, Panpan Yang1,*, Zengyan Yu1,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.26, No.5, pp. 335-343, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2024.048483 - 30 May 2024

Abstract Social anxiety is a common psychological problem among left-behind children (LBC) and has been a popular issue in recent years. Children with higher levels of social anxiety have more emotional and behavioral problems and are prone to negative life events. Although several studies have explored the differences in social anxiety between LBC and non-left-behind children (N-LBC), the findings have not been consistent. In this study, a systematic review and meta-analysis method was used, with 411 papers retrieved on October 01, 2023, from Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, and Chinese databases (CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang) (PROSPERO… More >

    Azad Hussain1, Saira Raiz1, Ali Hassan1,2,*, Mohamed R. Ali3, Abdulkafi Mohammed Saeed4

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.2, pp. 433-453, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.044121 - 20 May 2024

Abstract Heat transfer improves significantly when the working fluid has high thermal conductivity. Heat transfer can be found in fields such as food processing, solar through collectors, and drug delivery. Considering this notable fact, this work is focused on investigating the bio-convection-enhanced heat transfer in the existence of convective boundary conditions in the flow of hybrid nanofluid across a stretching surface. Buongiorno fluid model with hybrid nanoparticles has been employed along the swimming microorganisms to investigate the mixture base working fluid. The developed nonlinear flow governing equations have been tackled numerically with the help of the… More > Graphic Abstract

Galectin 2 regulates JAK/STAT3 signaling activity to modulate oral squamous cell carcinoma proliferation and migration in vitro

    XINRU FENG1, LI XIAO2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.5, pp. 793-801, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.048395 - 06 May 2024

Abstract Background: Galectin 2 (LGALS2) is a protein previously reported to serve as a mediator of disease progression in a range of cancers. The function of LGALS2 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), however, has yet to be explored, prompting the present study to address this literature gap. Methods: Overall, 144 paired malignant tumor tissues and paracancerous OSCC patient samples were harvested and the LGALS2 expression levels were examined through qPCR and western immunoblotting. The LGALS2 coding sequence was introduced into the pcDNA3.0 vector, to enable the overexpression of this gene, while an LGALS2-specific shRNA and… More >

Abstract The cancer cell metastasis is a major death reason for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although researchers have disclosed that interleukin 17 (IL-17) can increase matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) induction causing NSCLC cell metastasis, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In the study, we found that IL-17 receptor A (IL-17RA), p300, p-STAT3, Ack-STAT3, and MMP19 were up-regulated both in NSCLC tissues and NSCLC cells stimulated with IL-17. p300, STAT3 and MMP19 overexpression or knockdown could raise or reduce IL-17-induced p-STAT3, Ack-STAT3 and MMP19 level as well as the cell migration and invasion. Mechanism investigation revealed… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Background: Placenta specific 8 (PLAC8) is a candidate oncogene involved in the development and progression of solid tumors. However, the status of PLAC8 in lung cancer (LC), especially non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still not lucid. Methods: Tissue microarray analysis (TMA) was performed to detect the expression patterns of PLAC8 in LC tissues and cell lines. Then a series of cellular experiments were performed fto assess cell proliferation, cell cycle profiles, and cell motility to explore the role of PLAC8 in NSCLC-derived cell lines: H1299 and A549. Results: TMA results showed that PLAC8 played complex More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.48, No.2, pp. 217-228, 2024, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.027414 - 23 February 2024

Abstract Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in women. Immune features play an important role in improving the prognosis prediction of BC. However, while previous immune signatures consisted mainly of immune genes, immune cell-based signatures have been rarely reported. Methods: In this study, we report that a novel immune cell signature is effective in improving prognostic prediction by combining M2 macrophages. We identified 17 differentially infiltrating immune cells between cancer and normal groups. Prognostic features of the four immune cells identified by LASSO COX analysis showed… More >
