Abstract Background: KMT2 (lysine methyltransferase) family enzymes are epigenetic regulators that activate gene transcription. KMT2C is mainly involved in enhancer-associated H3K4me1, and is also one of the top mutated genes in cancer (6.6% in pan-cancer). Currently, the clinical significance of KMT2C mutations in prostate cancer is understudied. Methods: We included 221 prostate cancer patients diagnosed between 2014 and 2021 in West China Hospital of Sichuan University with cell-free DNA-based liquid biopsy test results in this study. We investigated the association between KMT2C mutations, other mutations, and pathways. Furthermore, we evaluated the prognostic value of KMT2C mutations, measured by overall survival (OS)… More >

Abstract Background: Transcatheter closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) has been widely accepted as a highly effective way to treat high-risk PFO-related diseases. However, traditional non-degradable occluders made of metal alloys will permanently exist in the body, resulting in thrombosis, valve damage, hemolysis, arrhythmia, or other complications. The biodegradable PFO occluder developed by Shanghai Mallow Medical Instrument Co., Ltd., China can be fully absorbed and degrade into nontoxic ingredients, reducing postoperative complications. Objectives: To study the safety and efficacy of biodegradable PFO occluders in treating PFO. Methods: This single-center clinical trial collected 30 patients treated with a biodegradable PFO occluder. The… More > Graphic Abstract

Identification of Tuberculosis and Coronavirus Patients Using Hybrid Deep Learning Models

    Mohammed A. Al Ghamdi*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.1, pp. 881-894, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.037826

Abstract Considerable resources, technology, and efforts are being utilized worldwide to eradicate the coronavirus. Although certain measures taken to prevent the further spread of the disease have been successful, efforts to completely wipe out the coronavirus have been insufficient. Coronavirus patients have symptoms similar to those of chest Tuberculosis (TB) or pneumonia patients. Chest tuberculosis and coronavirus are similar because both diseases affect the lungs, cause coughing and produce an irregular respiratory system. Both diseases can be confirmed through X-ray imaging. It is a difficult task to diagnose COVID-19, as coronavirus testing kits are neither excessively available nor very reliable. In… More >

COVID TCL: A Joint Metric Loss Function for Diagnosing COVID-19 Patient in the Early and Incubation Period

    Rui Wen1,*, Jie Zhou2, Zhongliang Shen1, Xiaorui Zhang2,3,4, Sunil Kumar Jha5

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 187-204, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.037889

Abstract Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) can quickly diagnose COVID-19 patients by analyzing computed tomography (CT) images of the lung, thereby effectively preventing the spread of COVID-19. However, the existing CNN-based COVID-19 diagnosis models do consider the problem that the lung images of COVID-19 patients in the early stage and incubation period are extremely similar to those of the non-COVID-19 population. Which reduces the model’s classification sensitivity, resulting in a higher probability of the model misdiagnosing COVID-19 patients as non-COVID-19 people. To solve the problem, this paper first attempts to apply triplet loss and center loss to the field of COVID-19 image… More >
