Prospect Theory Based Individual Irrationality Modelling and Behavior Inducement in Pandemic Control

    Wenxiang Dong, H. Vicky Zhao*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.1, pp. 139-170, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.047156

Abstract Understanding and modeling individuals’ behaviors during epidemics is crucial for effective epidemic control. However, existing research ignores the impact of users’ irrationality on decision-making in the epidemic. Meanwhile, existing disease control methods often assume users’ full compliance with measures like mandatory isolation, which does not align with the actual situation. To address these issues, this paper proposes a prospect theory-based framework to model users’ decision-making process in epidemics and analyzes how irrationality affects individuals’ behaviors and epidemic dynamics. According to the analysis results, irrationality tends to prompt conservative behaviors when the infection risk is low but encourages risk-seeking behaviors when… More >

Cancer-associated fibroblasts of colorectal cancer: Translational prospects in liquid biopsy and targeted therapy

ELYN AMIELA SALLEH1, YEONG YEH LEE2, ANDEE DZULKARNAEN ZAKARIA3, NUR ASYILLA CHE JALIL4, MARAHAINI MUSA1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.10, pp. 2233-2244, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.030541

Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major global health concern. Accumulation of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in CRC is associated with poor prognosis and disease recurrence. CAFs are the main cellular component of the tumor microenvironment. CAF-tumor cell interplay, which is facilitated by various secretomes, drives colorectal carcinogenesis. The complexity of CAF populations contributes to the heterogeneity of CRC and influences patient survival and treatment response. Due to their significant roles in colorectal carcinogenesis, different clinical applications utilizing or targeting CAFs have been suggested. Circulating CAFs (cCAFs) which can be detected in blood samples, have been proposed to help in determining patient… More > Graphic Abstract

Multi-Criteria Decision-Making for Power Grid Construction Project Investment Ranking Based on the Prospect Theory Improved by Rewarding Good and Punishing Bad Linear Transformation

    Shun Ma1, Na Yu1, Xiuna Wang2, Shiyan Mei1, Mingrui Zhao2,*, Xiaoyu Han2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.10, pp. 2369-2392, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028727

Abstract Using the improved prospect theory with the linear transformations of rewarding good and punishing bad (RGPBIT), a new investment ranking model for power grid construction projects (PGCPs) is proposed. Given the uncertainty of each index value under the market environment, fuzzy numbers are used to describe qualitative indicators and interval numbers are used to describe quantitative ones. Taking into account decision-maker’s subjective risk attitudes, a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method based on improved prospect theory is proposed. First, the [−1, 1] RGPBIT operator is proposed to normalize the original data, to obtain the best and worst schemes of PGCPs. Furthermore, the… More >

    Xiaoyan Liu1,2, Zhao Qin1,2,*, Yuxiang Ma1,2, Huamin Liu1,2,*, Xuede Wang1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.8, pp. 3203-3225, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027613

Abstract Packaging is a food preservation technology widely used in the world. Naturally-sourced, biodegradable polymers are becoming increasingly popular in the food packaging sector. Packaging films prepared using cellulose as raw material would contribute to resource sustainability, but the difficulty of cellulose solubilization limits their further development. In view of this, a series of novel solvent systems (LiCl/DMAc, ILs, TBAH/DMSO, NMMO, alkali/urea solutions, metal-complex solutions) were used to prepare high-strength and high-performance cellulose-based films; their characteristics and the mechanisms involved were investigated. Composite films prepared by blending cellulose with various polymers (synthetic polymers, natural polymers, proteins and enzymes, metal particles, and… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract The calla lily (Zantedeschia spreng.) is a bulbous flower native to the tropical regions of Africa. Calla lily has gained significant popularity in the international market owing to its intricate morphology and prolonged flowering duration. Despite such advantages, for two sub-groups of calla lily, known as group Zantedeschia and group Aestivae, there are challenges in terms of hybrid production due to the ‘plastome-genome incompatibility’ therebetween. Tissue culture is a fundamental biotechnological tool used in gene editing research, with a focus on disease resistance and flower color in calla lily breeding programs. The present review provides a brief background on the… More >
