Summary
Understanding adolescent behavior and mental health is crucial for developing effective prevention strategies and promoting lifelong well-being. Adolescence is a critical developmental window, marked by significant emotional, cognitive, and social changes that may shape mental health trajectories. Early identification of risk factors – especially those rooted in maternal and early childhood experiences – can offer valuable insights into the origins of mental health challenges. Research in this field plays a key role in uncovering the complex interplay between early determinants and adolescent outcomes, guiding public health policies and interventions aimed at reducing the burden of mental disorders. By investing in this area of study, we can foster more resilient individuals and healthier societies. This special issue aims to bring together original research articles, reviews, and theoretical contributions that explore adolescent mental health, risk behaviors, and early-life determinants. We particularly welcome studies that deepen our understanding of psychosocial, familial, and environmental influences on youth development, as well as those that inform preventive and interventional strategies. Suggested themes include (but are not limited to):
· Early childhood and maternal predictors of adolescent mental health
· Adolescent risk behaviors
· The role of family, society, and environment in the emotional development of children and adolescents
· Social determinants in mental health during childhood and adolescence
· Preventive interventions and public health strategies targeting youth
