In this study, we investigate the burgeoning public health concern of short video addiction among Chinese students. Our research, grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Behavior-Consequence (SOBC) framework, reveals a comprehensive model connecting short video usage intensity, the emerging concept of “TikTok brain,” addiction, and the decline in attention control. With a sample of 1086 participants, we uncover significant positive relationships between these variables, emphasizing the urgent need for self-regulation in the face of the negative impacts of excessive short video consumption.
