Summary
This special issue aims to bring together evidence on multidisciplinary non-pharmacological interventions applied across the entire life course for the promotion of well-being and mental health. Despite the growing interest in integrative approaches, significant gaps remain regarding comparative effectiveness, mechanisms of action, cultural adaptation and implementation across different age groups and social contexts.
The special issue seeks to explore practices such as art therapy, humour therapy, physical activity and structured exercise, forest bathing, mindfulness-based interventions, among others, analysing their impact on the prevention, treatment and maintenance of mental health from childhood to old age. Studies integrating clinical, educational and community perspectives, as well as innovative methodologies and long-term evaluations, will be particularly valued.
By highlighting under-represented populations and understudied contexts, this special issue aims to contribute to a more robust and translational understanding of these interventions, promoting person-centred, accessible and sustainable models of care capable of complementing pharmacological strategies and strengthening public mental health policies.
