Abdul Sattar Palli1,6,*, Jafreezal Jaafar1,2, Manzoor Ahmed Hashmani1,3, Heitor Murilo Gomes4,5, Aeshah Alsughayyir7, Abdul Rehman Gilal1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 1827-1845, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033934 - 06 February 2023

Abstract Every application in a smart city environment like the smart grid, health monitoring, security, and surveillance generates non-stationary data streams. Due to such nature, the statistical properties of data changes over time, leading to class imbalance and concept drift issues. Both these issues cause model performance degradation. Most of the current work has been focused on developing an ensemble strategy by training a new classifier on the latest data to resolve the issue. These techniques suffer while training the new classifier if the data is imbalanced. Also, the class imbalance ratio may change greatly from… More >

Heartbeat and Respiration Rate Prediction Using Combined Photoplethysmography and Ballisto Cardiography

    Valarmathi Ramasamy1,*, Dhandapani Samiappan2, R. Ramesh3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.2, pp. 1365-1380, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032155 - 05 January 2023

Abstract Owing to the recent trends in remote health monitoring, real-time applications for measuring Heartbeat Rate and Respiration Rate (HARR) from video signals are growing rapidly. Photo Plethysmo Graphy (PPG) is a method that is operated by estimating the infinitesimal change in color of the human face, rigid motion of facial skin and head parts, etc. Ballisto Cardiography (BCG) is a nonsurgical tool for obtaining a graphical depiction of the human body’s heartbeat by inducing repetitive movements found in the heart pulses. The resilience against motion artifacts induced by luminance fluctuation and the patient’s mobility variation… More >

3D Face Reconstruction from a Single Image Using a Combined PCA-LPP Method

    Jee-Sic Hur1, Hyeong-Geun Lee1, Shinjin Kang2, Yeo Chan Yoon3, Soo Kyun Kim1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 6213-6227, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.035344 - 28 December 2022

Abstract In this paper, we proposed a combined PCA-LPP algorithm to improve 3D face reconstruction performance. Principal component analysis (PCA) is commonly used to compress images and extract features. One disadvantage of PCA is local feature loss. To address this, various studies have proposed combining a PCA-LPP-based algorithm with a locality preserving projection (LPP). However, the existing PCA-LPP method is unsuitable for 3D face reconstruction because it focuses on data classification and clustering. In the existing PCA-LPP, the adjacency graph, which primarily shows the connection relationships between data, is composed of the e-or k-nearest neighbor techniques. More >

Optimal Scheduling Method of Cogeneration System with Heat Storage Device Based on Memetic Algorithm

    Haibo Li1,*, Yibao Wang1, Xinfu Pang1, Wei Liu1, Xu Zhang2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.2, pp. 317-343, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.023715 - 29 November 2022

Abstract Electric-heat coupling characteristics of a cogeneration system and the operating mode of fixing electricity with heat are the main reasons for wind abandonment during the heating season in the Three North area. To improve the wind-power absorption capacity and operating economy of the system, the structure of the system is improved by adding a heat storage device and an electric boiler. First, aiming at the minimum operating cost of the system, the optimal scheduling model of the cogeneration system, including a heat storage device and electric boiler, is constructed. Second, according to the characteristics of… More >

    Chang Liu1, Bo Luo1, Wei Wang1, Hongyuan Gao1, Zhixun Wang2, Hongfa Ding3,*, Mengqi Yu4, Yongquan Peng5

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.2, pp. 541-559, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.022610 - 28 November 2022

Abstract Building structures themselves are one of the key areas of urban energy consumption, therefore, are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. With this understood, the carbon trading market is gradually expanding to the building sector to control greenhouse gas emissions. Hence, to balance the interests of the environment and the building users, this paper proposes an optimal operation scheme for the photovoltaic, energy storage system, and flexible building power system (PEFB), considering the combined benefit of building. Based on the model of conventional photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage system (ESS), the mathematical optimization model More >

Abstract A study is presented on the feasibility of an approach based on the combination of Phase Change Materials (PCM) with metal walls in container-type houses. This line of research finds its motivations in recent trends in the energy and building sectors about energy consumption reduction. Another important objective concerns possible improvements in the comfort provided by such houses during the summer period. The results obtained through numerical solution of the governing equations accounting for heat transfer and latent heat effects associated with the PCM show that the indoor temperature can be reduced with a varying More >

Influence of Vertical Load on Lateral-Loaded Monopiles by Numerical Simulation

    Qiang Li1,2,*, Pan Chen1, Lihong Gao1, Dan Meng1, Jinjie Zou1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.1, pp. 465-481, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.020300 - 29 September 2022

Abstract Monopiles are the most common foundation form of offshore wind turbines, which bear the vertical load, lateral load and bending moment. It remains uncertain whether the applied vertical load increases the lateral deflection of the pile. This paper investigated the influence of vertical load on the behaviour of monopiles installed in the sand under combined load using three-dimensional numerical methods. The commercial software PLAXIS was used for simulations in this paper. Monopiles were modelled as a structure incorporating linear elastic material behaviour and soil was modelled using the Hardening-Soil (HS) constitutive model. The monopiles under… More >

Combined Linear Multi-Model for Reliable Route Recommender in Next Generation Network

    S. Kalavathi1,*, R. Nedunchelian2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 39-56, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.031522 - 29 September 2022

Abstract Network analysis is a promising field in the area of network applications as different types of traffic grow enormously and exponentially. Reliable route prediction is a challenging task in the Large Scale Networks (LSN). Various non-self-learning and self-learning approaches have been adopted to predict reliable routing. Routing protocols decide how to send all the packets from source to the destination addresses across the network through their IP. In the current era, dynamic protocols are preferred as they network self-learning internally using an algorithm and may not entail being updated physically more than the static protocols.… More >

Numerical Simulation of Vacuum Preloading for Chemically Conditioned Municipal Sludge

    Wenwei Li1, Xinjie Zhan2,*, Baotian Wang1, Jinyu Zuo1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.1, pp. 363-378, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.022254 - 10 August 2022

Abstract Municipal sludge is a sedimentation waste produced during the wastewater process in sewage treatment plants. Among recent studies, pilot and field tests showed that chemical conditioning combined with vacuum preloading can effectively treat municipal sludge. To further understand the drainage and consolidation characteristics of the conditioning sludge during vacuum preloading, a large deformation nonlinear numerical simulation model based on the equal strain condition was developed to simulate and analyze the pilot and field tests, whereas the simulation results were not satisfactory. The results of the numerical analysis of the pilot test showed that the predicted… More >
