    Farah Mohammad1,*, Saad Al-Ahmadi2, Jalal Al-Muhtadi1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.2, pp. 3175-3192, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.042873 - 15 May 2024

Abstract Electricity theft is a widespread non-technical issue that has a negative impact on both power grids and electricity users. It hinders the economic growth of utility companies, poses electrical risks, and impacts the high energy costs borne by consumers. The development of smart grids is crucial for the identification of power theft since these systems create enormous amounts of data, including information on client consumption, which may be used to identify electricity theft using machine learning and deep learning techniques. Moreover, there also exist different solutions such as hardware-based solutions to detect electricity theft that… More >

    Farhad Mortezapour Shiri1,*, Ehsan Ahmadi2, Mohammadreza Rezaee1, Thinagaran Perumal1

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.6, pp. 85-103, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jai.2024.048911 - 24 April 2024

Abstract Automatic detection of student engagement levels from videos, which is a spatio-temporal classification problem is crucial for enhancing the quality of online education. This paper addresses this challenge by proposing four novel hybrid end-to-end deep learning models designed for the automatic detection of student engagement levels in e-learning videos. The evaluation of these models utilizes the DAiSEE dataset, a public repository capturing student affective states in e-learning scenarios. The initial model integrates EfficientNetV2-L with Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) and attains an accuracy of 61.45%. Subsequently, the second model combines EfficientNetV2-L with bidirectional GRU (Bi-GRU), yielding More >

    Umar Isa Abdulkadir*, Anil Fernando*

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.6, pp. 71-83, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jai.2024.045332 - 22 April 2024

Abstract One of the significant issues the insurance industry faces is its ability to predict future claims related to individual policyholders. As risk varies from one policyholder to another, the industry has faced the challenge of using various risk factors to accurately predict the likelihood of claims by policyholders using historical data. Traditional machine-learning models that use neural networks are recognized as exceptional algorithms with predictive capabilities. This study aims to develop a deep learning model using sequential deep regression techniques for insurance claim prediction using historical data obtained from Kaggle with 1339 cases and eight… More >

Olive Leaf Disease Detection via Wavelet Transform and Feature Fusion of Pre-Trained Deep Learning Models

    Mahmood A. Mahmood1,2,*, Khalaf Alsalem1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.3, pp. 3431-3448, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.047604 - 26 March 2024

Abstract Olive trees are susceptible to a variety of diseases that can cause significant crop damage and economic losses. Early detection of these diseases is essential for effective management. We propose a novel transformed wavelet, feature-fused, pre-trained deep learning model for detecting olive leaf diseases. The proposed model combines wavelet transforms with pre-trained deep-learning models to extract discriminative features from olive leaf images. The model has four main phases: preprocessing using data augmentation, three-level wavelet transformation, learning using pre-trained deep learning models, and a fused deep learning model. In the preprocessing phase, the image dataset is… More >

Micro-Locational Fine Dust Prediction Utilizing Machine Learning and Deep Learning Models

    Seoyun Kim1,#, Hyerim Yu2,#, Jeewoo Yoon1,3, Eunil Park1,2,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.2, pp. 413-429, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.041575 - 19 March 2024

Abstract Given the increasing number of countries reporting degraded air quality, effective air quality monitoring has become a critical issue in today’s world. However, the current air quality observatory systems are often prohibitively expensive, resulting in a lack of observatories in many regions within a country. Consequently, a significant problem arises where not every region receives the same level of air quality information. This disparity occurs because some locations have to rely on information from observatories located far away from their regions, even if they may be the closest available options. To address this challenge, a… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.2, pp. 1995-2022, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.046478 - 27 February 2024

Abstract In recent years, frequent network attacks have highlighted the importance of efficient detection methods for ensuring cyberspace security. This paper presents a novel intrusion detection system consisting of a data preprocessing stage and a deep learning model for accurately identifying network attacks. We have proposed four deep neural network models, which are constructed using architectures such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM), Bidirectional Gate Recurrent Unit (BiGRU), and Attention mechanism. These models have been evaluated for their detection performance on the NSL-KDD dataset. To enhance the compatibility between the data and the More >

    Mian Muhammad Danyal1, Muhammad Haseeb1, Sarwar Shah Khan2,*, Bilal Khan1, Subhan Ullah1

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.6, pp. 23-42, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jai.2023.045617 - 31 January 2024

Abstract Movies reviews provide valuable insights that can help people decide which movies are worth watching and avoid wasting their time on movies they will not enjoy. Movie reviews may contain spoilers or reveal significant plot details, which can reduce the enjoyment of the movie for those who have not watched it yet. Additionally, the abundance of reviews may make it difficult for people to read them all at once, classifying all of the movie reviews will help in making this decision without wasting time reading them all. Opinion mining, also called sentiment analysis, is the… More >
