    Yasushi Koito1,*, Shoma Hitotsuya2, Takamitsu Takayama2, Kenta Hashimoto2

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 33-46, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.041829

Abstract An ultra-thin flattened heat pipe has been developed with a centered wick structure. This structure is essential to make the heat pipe thinner. However, the centered wick structure reduces the evaporation and condensation surface areas of the wick structure because it is sandwiched between heat pipe walls. In this study, because detailed discussion has not been made, heat transfer experiments were conducted for the wick structure sandwiched between two solid walls. This study focused on the evaporation heat transfer characteristics from the sandwiched wick structure. The experiments were conducted with three wick structures, that is, strip-shaped sintered copper powders with… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 65-79, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.042613

Abstract As a means of harvesting solar energy for water treatment, solar-driven vapor generation is becoming more appealing. Due to their entangled fibrous networks and high surface area, fibers can be used as building blocks to generate water vapor. In this paper, using a two-dimensional fiber bundle model, we studied the generation of solar vapor based on the fiber height, distance between fibers, and input sun radiation. The performance of solar absorption system was also evaluated by evaluating thermal and water management. Results showed a constant increase in solar vapor generation with an increasing fiber height and decreasing inter-fiber distance. However,… More > Graphic Abstract

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 47-63, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.045134

Abstract The calculation of heat and humidity load serves as the cornerstone of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) design. Nevertheless, as the heat and humidity load characteristics of underground structures differ substantially from those of above-ground structures, it is a challenge to derive their accurate calculation procedure through engineering experience. Therefore, it is particularly important to carry out quantitative research on heat and humidity load. This study used Design Builder software to study the influence of the design state point of air conditioning in underground buildings on energy consumption. The study showed that compared with the single design temperature of… More >
