    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 3599-3618, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.037655

Abstract This paper presents a robust multi-stage security solution based on fusion, encryption, and watermarking processes to transmit color healthcare images, efficiently. The presented solution depends on the features of discrete cosine transform (DCT), lifting wavelet transform (LWT), and singular value decomposition (SVD). The primary objective of this proposed solution is to ensure robustness for the color medical watermarked images against transmission attacks. During watermark embedding, the host color medical image is transformed into four sub-bands by employing three stages of LWT. The resulting low-frequency sub-band is then transformed by employing three stages of DCT followed by SVD operation. Furthermore, a… More >

Abstract Nowadays, high-resolution images pose several challenges in the context of image encryption. The encryption of huge images’ file sizes requires high computational resources. Traditional encryption techniques like, Data Encryption Standard (DES), and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) are not only inefficient, but also less secure. Due to characteristics of chaos theory, such as periodicity, sensitivity to initial conditions and control parameters, and unpredictability. Hence, the characteristics of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), such as vast parallelism and large storage capacity, make it a promising field. This paper presents an efficient color image encryption method utilizing DNA encoding with two types of hyper-chaotic maps.… More >

Abstract Aberrant activation of the WNT signaling pathway is a joint event in colorectal cancer (CRC), but the molecular mechanism is still unclear. Recently, RNA-splicing factor LSM12 (like-Sm protein 12) is highly expressed in CRC tissues. This study aimed to verify whether LSM12 is involved in regulating CRC progression via regulating the WNT signaling pathway. Here, we found that LSM12 is highly expressed in CRC patient-derived tissues and cells. LSM12 is involved in the proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis of CRC cells, similar to the function of WNT signaling in CRC. Furthermore, protein interaction simulation and biochemical experiments proved that LSM12 directly… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 1765-1781, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.029552

Abstract Detecting double Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) compression for color images is vital in the field of image forensics. In previous researches, there have been various approaches to detecting double JPEG compression with different quantization matrices. However, the detection of double JPEG color images with the same quantization matrix is still a challenging task. An effective detection approach to extract features is proposed in this paper by combining traditional analysis with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). On the one hand, the number of nonzero pixels and the sum of pixel values of color space conversion error are provided with 12-dimensional features… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.30, No.5, pp. 231-242, 2022, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.027900

Abstract Lipid is a key component of plasma membrane, which plays an important role in the regulation of various cell biological behaviors, including cell proliferation, growth, differentiation and intracellular signal transduction. Studies have shown that abnormal lipid metabolism is involved in many malignant processes, including colorectal cancer (CRC). Lipid metabolism in CRC cells can be regulated not only by intracellular signals, but also by various components in the tumor microenvironment, including various cells, cytokines, DNA, RNA, and nutrients including lipids. In contrast, abnormal lipid metabolism provides energy and nutrition support for abnormal malignant growth and distal metastasis of CRC cells. In… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.1, pp. 1093-1108, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.036652

Abstract With the rapid development of 5G technology, it has become fast and easy for people to transmit information on the Internet. Digital images can express information more intuitively, so transmitting information through images has excellent applications. This paper uses a new chaotic system called 1D-Sin-Logistic-Map (1D-SLM). 1D-SLM has two control parameters, which can provide larger parameter space, and the parameter space in the chaotic state is continuous. Through Lyapunov exponent analysis (LE), bifurcation diagrams analysis, spectral entropy analysis (SE), and 0-1 test, it is verified that 1D-SLM has complex dynamic behavior and is very suitable for cryptography. Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.1, pp. 1059-1077, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.034809

Abstract Colorization is the practice of adding appropriate chromatic values to monochrome photographs or videos. A real-valued luminance image can be mapped to a three-dimensional color image. However, it is a severely ill-defined problem and not has a single solution. In this paper, an encoder-decoder Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model is used for colorizing gray images where the encoder is a Densely Connected Convolutional Network (DenseNet) and the decoder is a conventional CNN. The DenseNet extracts image features from gray images and the conventional CNN outputs a * b * color channels. Due to a large number of desaturated color components compared to saturated… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.30, No.2, pp. 89-97, 2022, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.027058

Abstract We aimed to explore the molecular mechanism that were involved in SPINK1-induced proliferation and clonogenic survival of human colorectal carcinoma (CRC) HT29 cells. Initially, we generated HT29 cells either permanently silencing or overexpressing SPINK1 protein. The results showed that SPINK1 overexpression (OE) significantly stimulated the proliferation and clonal formation of HT29 cells at the varied time points. Secondly, we found SPINK1 OE enhanced the ratio of LC3II/LC3I and the level of autophagy-related gene 5 (ATG5), whereas SPINK1 knockdown (Kd) reversed the above outcome under normal culturing and/or fasting condition in the cells, indicating its role in autophagy enhancement. Moreover, LC3-GFP-transfected… More >

Abstract The controversial outcomes in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) highlight the need for developing effective systemic neoadjuvant treatment strategies to improve clinical results. The optimal treatment cycles in patients with mCRC for metastasectomy remain undefined. This retrospective study compared the efficacy, safety, and survival of cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy/targeted therapy for such patients. Sixty-four patients with mCRC who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy/targeted therapy following metastasectomy were enrolled between January 2018 and April 2022. Twenty-eight patients received 6 cycles of chemotherapy/targeted therapy, whereas 36 patients received ≥7 cycles (median, 13; range, 7–20). Clinical outcomes, including response, progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival… More >
