    Qiang Zhang1, Xianguang Zha1, Jun Wu1, Liang Zhang1, Wei Dai2, Gang Ren3, Shiqian Li3, Ning Ji3,*, Xiangjun Zhu3, Fengwei Tian3

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.16, No.1, pp. 37-51, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.018422

Abstract As the emergency power supply for a simulation substation, lead-acid batteries have a work pattern featuring non-continuous operation, which leads to capacity regeneration. However, the accurate estimation of battery state of charge (SOC), a measurement of the amount of energy available in a battery, remains a hard nut to crack because of the non-stationarity and randomness of battery capacity change. This paper has proposed a comprehensive method for lead-acid battery SOC estimation, which may aid in maintaining a reasonable charging schedule in a simulation substation and improving battery’s durability. Based on the battery work pattern, an improved Ampere-hour method is… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 569-589, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.018693

Abstract Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is one of the potential solutions to increase energy system flexibility, as BESS is well suited to solve many challenges in transmission and distribution networks. Examples of distribution network’s challenges, which affect network performance, are: (i) Load disconnection or technical constraints violation, which may happen during reconfiguration after fault, (ii) Unpredictable power generation change due to Photovoltaic (PV) penetration, (iii) Undesirable PV reverse power, and (iv) Low Load Factor (LF) which may affect electricity price. In this paper, the BESS is used to support distribution networks in reconfiguration after a fault, increasing Photovoltaic (PV) penetration,… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 739-754, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.018025

Abstract High-precision estimation of lithium battery SOC can effectively optimize vehicle energy management, improve lithium battery safety protection, extend lithium battery cycle life, and reduce new energy vehicle costs. Based on the forgetting factor recursive least square method (FFRLS), Thevenin equivalent circuit model and Singular Value Decomposition-Unscented Kalman Filter (SVD-UKF), the SVD-UKF combined lithium battery SOC estimation algorithm with model capacity update is proposed, aiming at further improving the SOC estimation accuracy of lithium battery. The parameter identification of Thevenin model is studied by using the forgetting factor recursive least square method. To overcoming the shortcomings of Kalman filter linearization error… More >

Towards Realistic Vibration Testing of Large Floor Batteries for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)

    Benedikt Plaumann*

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.56, No.1, pp. 1-19, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sv.2022.018634

Abstract This contribution shows an analysis of vibration measurement on large floor-mounted traction batteries of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV). The focus lies on the requirements for a realistic replication of the mechanical environments in a testing laboratory. Especially the analysis on global bending transfer functions and local corner bending coherence indicate that neither a fully stiff fixation of the battery nor a completely independent movement on the four corners yields a realistic and conservative test scenario. The contribution will further show what implication these findings have on future vibration & shock testing equipment for large traction batteries. Additionally, it will cover… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.5, pp. 1337-1348, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018770

Abstract It is critical to study efficient, stable oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysts due to insufficient stability and expensive price of Pt/C catalysts for Zn-air batteries. Fe–N–C electrocatalysts was synthesized by a facile solvent-green method and the efficiency of Fe–N–C optimized was studied as potential ORR electrocatalysts under alkaline condition. Results indicated that it had excellent ORR activity with E1/2 of 0.93 V, which was competitive to that of Pt/C-JM under the same conditions. Moreover, the assembled Zn-air battery exhibited discharge potential and charge potential of 1.2 V, 2.32 V at 5 mA cm2 with high stability, respectively. Overall, all results illustrated… More > Graphic Abstract

    Shaik Karimulla, K. Ravi*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.32, No.3, pp. 1557-1572, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.022953

Abstract The usage of energy in everyday life is growing day by day as a result of the rapid growth in the human population. One solution is to increase electricity generation to the same extent as the human population, but this is usually practically impossible. As the population is increasing, the need for electrical usage is also increasing. Therefore, smart grids play an important role in making efficient use of existing energy sources like solar, wind and battery storage systems. By managing demand, the minimization of power consumption and its consequent costs. On the load side, residential and commercial types use… More >

    M. Narendra Kumar1,*, S. Manoj Kumar2, G. C. Vijayakumar1, K. Kadirgama3,4, M. Samykano5, Krishna Venkatesh1, H. B. Murlidhara1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.1, pp. 201-217, 2022, DOI:10.32604/EE.2022.016597

Abstract This study computationally investigates the hydrodynamics of different serpentine flow field designs for redox flow batteries, which considers the Poiseuille flow in the flow channel and the Darcy flow porous substrate. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) results of the in-house developed code based on Finite Volume Method (FVM) for conventional serpentine flow field (CSFF) agreed well with those obtained via experiment. The deviation for pressure drop was less than 5.1% for all the flow rates, thus proving the present CFD analysis’s validity on the modified variation of serpentine flow fields. Modified serpentine flow field-2 (MSFF2) design provided least pressure drop across… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 1463-1481, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017995

Abstract Recently, implementation of Battery Energy Storage (BES) with photovoltaic (PV) array in distribution networks is becoming very popular in overall the world. Integrating PV alone in distribution networks generates variable output power during 24-hours as it depends on variable natural source. PV can be able to generate constant output power during 24-hours by installing BES with it. Therefore, this paper presents a new application of a recent metaheuristic algorithm, called Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA), to determine the best size, and location of photovoltaic alone or with battery energy storage in the radial distribution system (RDS). This algorithm is modeled from… More >
