Summary

Corrosion of reinforcing steel remains one of the most critical deterioration mechanisms affecting reinforced concrete (RC) structures throughout their service life. Environmental actions such as chloride ingress, carbonation, moisture, and other aggressive exposure conditions initiate corrosion processes that progressively reduce the structural capacity, durability, and reliability of RC structures. Corrosion-induced cross-sectional loss of reinforcement, degradation of mechanical properties, bond deterioration, and the accumulation of expansive corrosion products lead to cracking, spalling, and accelerated damage propagation in concrete members. These deterioration mechanisms significantly impair the load-carrying capacity, stiffness, ductility, seismic performance, and service life of RC structures, highlighting the urgent need for reliable assessment methodologies. This Special Issue aims to present recent advances in the structural capacity assessment of corroded reinforced concrete structures through experimental investigations, analytical approaches, numerical simulations, and field applications. Contributions addressing corrosion-induced deterioration, structural capacity evaluation, structural performance, durability assessment, service-life prediction, bond degradation, non-destructive testing, probabilistic assessment, numerical modelling, and performance-based evaluation are particularly encouraged. By bringing together interdisciplinary research spanning material, member, and structural levels, this Special Issue seeks to provide comprehensive insights into the structural assessment and long-term performance of corrosion-affected reinforced concrete structures, supporting the development of safer, more durable, and sustainable infrastructure.
