This study addresses the challenge of identifying impact-related damage in CFRP laminates by developing smart composite structures integrated with FBG sensors and comparing surface-bonded and embedded sensing configurations. By combining static loading tests, low-velocity impact experiments, and LS-DYNA multi-scale simulations, the work reveals distance-dependent strain attenuation, a four-stage impact response, and the relationship between impact energy and peak strain, providing guidance for self-sensing CFRP structures and structural health monitoring system design.
