Summary

Started a few decades before, and continued, the global geopolitical status demonstrates the fragile energy scenario in terms of resources, market, and connectivity. With the current scenario, we realized the consequences on the entire structure of the international geopolitical and financial systems. Such a situation is highly influencing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementations in developed, developing, and low-income nations. It is not undisclosed that it is called an Energy Crisis. The current energy scenario is mainly sourced from fossil fuels, which is unsustainable over the long term due to depletion, negative climate change impacts, negative health impacts, and the challenge of preserving ecosystems. Deviation from fossils to clean, renewable resources is combined with huge challenges. Hence, all types of efforts are made to improve the energy systems' efficiencies, reduce carbon emissions, and balance the production cost of energy.

The collection compiles state-of-the-art research and development on energy resources, energy systems, energy processes, energy conversion, energy storage, and all related materials to energy and fuel technologies. The collection accepts mainly papers presenting research results and limited reviews of hot energy systems and process topics. The special issue aims to highlight innovative research and developments that contribute to sustainable energy solutions.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Emerging Energy Resources: Exploration of alternative energy sources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, and bioenergy, emphasizing their potential for cost-effectiveness and environmental impact.
· Innovative Energy Processes: Examination of new technologies and processes that enhance the efficiency of energy production, conversion, and storage, leading to reduced costs and improved sustainability.
· Integrated Energy Systems: Discussion on the integration of various energy systems (e.g., smart grids, microgrids) that promote efficient energy distribution and usage across different sectors.
· Advanced Materials for Energy Applications: Highlighting developments in materials science that support the longevity, efficiency, and affordability of energy technologies, including batteries, photovoltaic cells, and thermal systems.
· Policy and Economic Considerations: Addressing the socio-economic aspects of transitioning to affordable and sustainable energy while ensuring equity and accessibility.
