Summary
The global energy landscape is undergoing a profound transformation driven by escalating climate imperatives, geopolitical shifts, and evolving policy frameworks. In this context, the intersection of energy policy and market structures plays a pivotal role in shaping the success of energy transitions worldwide. The COVID-19 pandemic, subsequent economic recovery, and recent energy crises have revealed both the fragility and resilience of energy systems, underscoring the importance of adaptive and well-designed policy mechanisms.
This special issue aims to provide a platform for innovative research and critical discussion on the design, implementation, and impact of energy policies and market reforms across regions and energy systems. It brings together cross-disciplinary insights on regulatory interventions, carbon pricing, subsidy reforms, energy security strategies, market liberalization, and the integration of renewables within existing and emerging market structures. Furthermore, the issue will explore both theoretical and empirical dimensions, capturing global, national, and regional perspectives with an emphasis on policy innovation, market-based mechanisms, governance frameworks, and their implications for sustainable and equitable energy transitions.
The topics suggested to be covered usually include but are not limited to:
· Energy market liberalization and regulatory reform
· Comparative energy policy studies and best practices
· Energy pricing, subsidy reform, and taxation
· Investment and financing frameworks for clean energy
· Carbon markets and emissions trading mechanisms
· Energy security in an era of supply shocks and geopolitical risk
· Institutional and governance challenges in energy transitions
· Policy frameworks for integrating storage, hydrogen, and grid flexibility
· Digitalization and smart market operation
