Summary
The rapid urbanization of emerging economies, coupled with the pressing challenges of climate change, is creating an urgent demand for sustainable and resilient energy systems. Achieving net-zero energy districts requires not only large-scale deployment of renewable resources but also innovative storage and control strategies to ensure stability, affordability, and resilience under diverse climatic conditions. Hot climates in particular present unique challenges for cooling demand, renewable intermittency, and energy equity, making this research area both timely and essential.
This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research on the design, integration, and management of smart energy systems that support the transition toward net-zero buildings and districts. Particular emphasis will be placed on hybrid energy storage technologies, predictive control and digital twins, and solutions tailored for emerging economies and hot climate regions.
We welcome original research, review papers, and case studies covering, but not limited to, the following themes:
· Renewable-based urban and district energy systems (PV, wind, geothermal, hybrid solutions)
· Hybrid storage systems (batteries, hydrogen, and thermal storage)
· Smart energy management, IoT, AI, and digital twins
· Resilience and adaptability of energy infrastructures
· Techno-economic, policy, and real-world case studies in emerging economies
