Summary
Fuel cell technologies are rapidly evolving to meet the demands of a decarbonized and digitally connected energy future. As the global push toward clean and sustainable energy intensifies, the integration of smart design principles, intelligent control systems, advanced materials, and data-driven optimization strategies into fuel cell systems is becoming a defining feature of next-generation energy solutions.
This special issue invites original research articles, reviews, and case studies that explore the latest advancements in smart fuel cell technologies. We welcome contributions that address innovations across the entire spectrum from materials development and electrochemical performance to system integration, real-time diagnostics, and AI-enabled control.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Novel materials and architectures for smart fuel cells;
· Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital twins in fuel cell operation and optimization;
· Internet of Things (IoT) integration and real-time monitoring of fuel cell systems;
· Intelligent control systems for fuel cell performance, reliability, and safety;
· Advances in solid oxide, PEM, direct methanol, and other fuel cell types;
· System-level modeling, simulation, and diagnostics;
· Hybrid and integrated systems combining fuel cells with renewable energy or storage;
· Applications in transportation, stationary power, and portable devices;
· Challenges and opportunities in commercialization and scalability of smart fuel cells.
