Summary
The global transition toward sustainable, resilient, and intelligent energy systems has accelerated the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across all aspects of energy engineering. The increasing penetration of renewable energy resources, distributed energy systems, electric vehicles, energy storage technologies, and smart grids has introduced unprecedented operational complexity, creating a strong demand for intelligent, data-driven, and autonomous solutions. AI techniques—including machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, computational intelligence, and hybrid optimization algorithms—are playing a transformative role in enhancing the efficiency, reliability, security, and sustainability of modern energy systems. These technologies enable advanced forecasting, real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, optimal energy management, intelligent control, and informed decision-making, thereby supporting the digital transformation of the energy sector.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers, engineers, and industry practitioners to present recent advances, emerging methodologies, and practical applications of AI in smart and sustainable energy systems. Original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and case studies that contribute to the development of innovative AI-enabled solutions for energy engineering are highly encouraged.
