Summary

Chalcogenide nanostructures, spanning quantum dots, nanowires, layered flakes, and their composites, have emerged as a remarkably versatile materials platform, exhibiting size-, shape-, and interface-tunable optical, electronic, and chemical properties. Harnessing these features for next-generation functional devices now depends critically on the ability to correlate structure and local composition with performance, often under realistic operating conditions.

This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in the advanced characterization and application of chalcogenide nanomaterials and nanocomposites. It seeks original research and review contributions that employ state-of-the-art spectroscopy, microscopy, and in‑situ/operando probes to unravel structure–property–function relationships, and that translate these insights into novel device concepts. Studies bridging structural, chemical, and electronic characterization with functional performance in electronics, photonics, energy storage and conversion, catalysis, and sensing are especially welcome.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Synthesis and advanced characterization of 0D, 1D, and 2D chalcogenide nanostructures;
· Chalcogenide-based nanocomposites and hybrid architectures;
· In‑situ and operando spectroscopy and microscopy of nanostructured chalcogenides;
· Structure–property–performance correlations in chalcogenide nanomaterials;
· Chalcogenide nanostructures for electronic, optoelectronic, and photonic devices;
· Chalcogenide nanomaterials for energy storage, conversion, and catalysis;
· Theory and modeling of size-, shape-, and interface-dependent properties in chalcogenide nanostructures.
