Summary

Autonomous aerial, surface, and underwater systems are increasingly being adopted in environmental monitoring, infrastructure inspection, maritime surveillance, disaster response, search and rescue, agriculture, aquaculture, defense, and scientific exploration. Artificial intelligence and computer vision play a fundamental role in extending the operational capabilities of these systems by enabling the automatic analysis of images, video, sonar data, and other sensing modalities. Nevertheless, their deployment in real-world scenarios remains challenging due to adverse weather, smoke, reflections, underwater turbidity, changing illumination, dynamic environments, communication constraints, and limited onboard computational resources.

This Special Issue aims to present recent advances in artificial intelligence and computer vision applications for autonomous aerial, surface, and underwater systems. It welcomes original research and review articles addressing innovative computational methods, integrated systems, datasets, and real-world applications involving Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), and heterogeneous autonomous platforms.

Topics of interest include environmental and maritime monitoring, infrastructure inspection, disaster management, search and rescue, object detection and tracking, image and sonar analysis, mapping and georeferencing, multi-sensor data fusion, cooperative autonomous systems, digital twins, synthetic data generation, domain adaptation, edge artificial intelligence, real-time image processing, and trustworthy autonomous operation. Contributions supported by experimental evaluation, field deployments, or realistic simulation environments are particularly encouraged.
