3D FEM Analysis of the Buckling Delamination of a Rectangular Viscoelastic Composite Plate with an Embedded Rectangular Crack Under Two-Axial Compression

    S. D. Akbarov1, N. Yahnioglu2, E. E. Karatas2
    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-18, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.030.001
Abstract In Akbarov, Yahnioglu and Karatas (2010) a buckling delamination problem for a rectangular viscoelastic composite plate with a band and edge cracks was investigated under uniaxial compression of the plate. In the present study this investigation is developed for the case where the mentioned rectangular plate contains an embedded rectangular crack and in addition it is assumed that the plate is subjected to two-axial compression.
It is supposed that all end surfaces of the considered plate are simply supported and that these ends are subjected to uniformly distributed normal compressive forces with intensity p1 and p3 which act along… More >

Abstract Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are employed as an alternative to physical modeling for calculation of the relations between the production path process parameters (melting of scrap steel and alloying, continuous casting, hydrogen removal, reheating, rolling, and cooling on a cooling bed) and the final product mechanical properties (elongation, tensile strength, yield stress, hardness after rolling, necking) of steel semi products. They provide a much faster technique of response evaluation complementary to physical modeling. The Štore Steel company process path for production of steel bars is used as an example for demonstrating the approach. The applied ANN is of a multilayer… More >

Development of 3D Trefftz Voronoi Cells with Ellipsoidal Voids &/or Elastic/Rigid Inclusions for Micromechanical Modeling of Heterogeneous Materials

    Leiting Dong1, Satya N. Atluri11
    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 39-82, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.030.039
Abstract In this paper, as an extension to the authors's work in [Dong and Atluri (2011a,b, 2012a,b,c)], three-dimensional Trefftz Voronoi Cells (TVCs) with ellipsoidal voids/inclusions are developed for micromechanical modeling of heterogeneous materials. Several types of TVCs are developed, depending on the types of heterogeneity in each Voronoi Cell(VC). Each TVC can include alternatively an ellipsoidal void, an ellipsoidal elastic inclusion, or an ellipsoidal rigid inclusion. In all of these cases, an inter-VC compatible displacement field is assumed at each surface of the polyhedral VC, with Barycentric coordinates as nodal shape functions. The Trefftz trial displacement fields in each VC are… More >

On the Some Particularities of the Torsional Wave Dispersion in a Finitely Pre-Deformed Hollow Sandwich Cylinder

    Surkay D. Akbarov1,2, Tamer Kepceler1, M. Mert Egilmez1
    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 83-98, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2012.030.083
Abstract This paper develops the investigations started in a work by Akbarov, Kepceler and Mert Egilmez (2011) and studies the some particularities of the torsional wave dispersion in a finitely pre-deformed sandwich hollow cylinder. The mentioned particularities relate to the influence of the stiffness ratio of the core and face layers' materials and the influence of the thickness ratio of these layers on the dispersion character of the wave under consideration. Moreover, the mentioned influences are studied for the various values of the parameter which characterizes the initial strains in the cylinder's layers. The mechanical relations of the materials of the… More >
