Summary

Software-defined networking (SDN), coupled with intelligence-driven methodologies, is reshaping the management of edge-cloud systems, which are vital for supporting a new generation of latency-sensitive and data-intensive applications. As demand grows for flexible, efficient, and secure services, evolving these systems to meet challenges in scalability, adaptability, and performance has become increasingly important.

This special issue aims to explore cutting-edge advances at the intersection of SDN and intelligent technologies, focusing on their impact on the design, optimization, and security of edge-cloud infrastructures.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
· Intelligent and AI/ML-based solutions for edge-cloud orchestration and optimization
· SDN-enabled service architectures for distributed computing
· Quality of Service (QoS) and performance assurance mechanisms
· Security, reliability, and anomaly detection in edge-cloud systems
· Data-driven management of federated edge-cloud networks
· Protocol design and function orchestration in dynamic environments
· Open hardware and infrastructure innovation for edge-cloud systems
