Extended Reality (XR) technologies—encompassing Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), and emerging hybrid forms—are revolutionizing the way people interact, learn, and communicate across diverse domains. By seamlessly blending physical and digital environments, XR enables new modes of knowledge creation, delivery, and experience, fostering multisensory engagement that goes far beyond the limitations of traditional media.
XR technologies are reshaping several sectors such as cultural heritage, education, media production, industrial training, remote collaboration, health care and palliative care, product, and tourism marketing etc. These innovations rely on high-performance computing, intelligent algorithms, 3D modeling, real-time rendering, and networked systems to deliver scalable, adaptive, and data-driven immersive experiences.
This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research on the computational foundations, system architectures, AI-driven algorithms, and real-world applications of XR technologies across diverse domains. We welcome interdisciplinary contributions that explore design, implementation, modeling, and evaluation of XR systems, with an emphasis on computational methods, intelligent content generation, and system integration.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
· Computational modeling and simulation for XR systems
· AI and machine learning for XR content creation, personalization, and adaptation
· Computer vision, 3D reconstruction, and real-time rendering in XR systems
· Network optimization, cloud/edge computing, and IoT integration for XR
· Data analytics and big data-driven user experience optimization in XR
· Gamification, immersive storytelling, and interactive media in XR
· Cybersecurity, privacy, and ethical issues in XR immersive environments
· Authoring tools, AI-assisted XR development, and cross-platform deployment
