As intelligent systems expand rapidly, heterogeneous urban networks connect millions of diverse physical objects and smart devices. These interconnected systems continuously sense and transmit vast volumes of local environmental data, driving the evolution of big data generated by connected devices. However, because these devices often operate on disparate protocol stacks, architectures, and data formats, achieving seamless communication, scalability, and robust security remains a critical challenge.
This Special Issue provides a collaborative platform for multidisciplinary researchers and practitioners to advance state-of-the-art solutions for smart cities. It highlights groundbreaking research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced networking. Key areas of focus include energy optimization for resource-constrained devices, cutting-edge cybersecurity frameworks to protect critical urban infrastructure, and innovations in robotics and remote sensing across local-to-global scales.
By uniting these diverse domains, this collection aims to showcase effective methodologies and real-world practices that shape resilient, secure, and truly intelligent urban ecosystems. It also aims to explore emerging factors influencing the adoption of AI-driven intelligent systems and secure networking in smart-city applications across fields such as healthcare, industry, agriculture, and social media. High-quality survey papers are also welcome.
