Summary
Wilms’ tumor is one of the most frequent solid tumors in children. In the last two decades, a number of data has been gathered and substantial improvements in therapy and QALY for pediatric patients affected with this renal tumor. In this special issue, the knowledge on Tumor Biology, Pathology Fundamentals including machine learning projects, Biomarkers, and Liquid Biopsy of this rare tumor will be emphasized. We aim to incorporate circulating tumor DNA and liquid biopsies to identify the molecular landscape to the knowledge of tumor biology, pathology nuances and mimickers, and biomarkers. Biorepositories will be key for the success of diagnosis of conventional therapy refractory Wilms tumors. We aim to expand preclinical research, identification and validation of biomarkers, and data sharing among basic and clinical investigators with the ultimate aim to improve the outcome of the affected children. We are going to emphasize liquid biopsy data, use of artificial intelligence, and the current and future therapeutic approaches.
