    Abstract

This paper deals with the numerical implementation of the exponential Drucker-Parger plasticity model in the commercial finite element software, ABAQUS, via user subroutine UMAT for adhesive joint simulations. The influence of hydrostatic pressure on adhesive strength was investigated by a modified Arcan fixture designed particularly to induce a different state of hydrostatic pressure within an adhesive layer. The developed user subroutine UMAT, which utilizes an associated plastic flow during a plastic deformation, can provide a good agreement between the simulations and the experimental data. Better numerical stability at highly positive hydrostatic pressure loads for a very high order of exponential… More >

Abstract With the development of urbanization, the problem of neurological diseases brought about by population aging has gradually become a social problem of worldwide concern. Aging leads to gradual degeneration of the central nervous system, shrinkage of brain tissue, and decline in physical function in many elderlies, making them susceptible to neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), stroke, Parkinson’s and major depressive disorder (MDD). Due to the influence of these neurological diseases, the elderly have troubles such as memory loss, inability to move, falling, and getting lost, which seriously affect their quality of life. Abstract Continuum topology optimization considering the vibration response is of great value in the engineering structure design. The aim of this study is to address the topological design optimization of harmonic excitation structures with minimum length scale control to facilitate structural manufacturing. A structural topology design based on discrete variables is proposed to avoid localized vibration modes, gray regions and fuzzy boundaries in harmonic excitation topology optimization. The topological design model and sensitivity formulation are derived. The requirement of minimum size control is transformed into a geometric constraint using the discrete variables. An analytic approach based on a multi-state model (MSM) should be used in longitudinal health studies in which a patient experiences a sequence of clinical progression events. One main objective in the MSM framework is variable selection, where attempts are made to identify the risk factors associated with the transition hazard rates or probabilities of disease progression. The usual variable selection methods, including stepwise and penalized methods, do not provide information about the importance of variables. Its hazard rate function can be decreasing, increasing, bathtub and upside-down then bathtub shaped. Diverse structural properties of the proposed model are acquired including quantile function, moments, entropies, order statistics, residual life and reversed failure… More >

In this study, we proposed a nonparametric homogeneously weighted moving average based on the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with ranked set sampling () control chart for detecting shifts in the process location of a continuous and symmetric distribution. Abstract This paper first attempts to solve the transient heat conduction problem by combining the recently proposed local knot method (LKM) with the dual reciprocity method (DRM). Firstly, the temporal derivative is discretized by a finite difference scheme, and thus the governing equation of transient heat transfer is transformed into a non-homogeneous modified Helmholtz equation. Secondly, the solution of the non-homogeneous modified Helmholtz equation is decomposed into a particular solution and a homogeneous solution. And then, the DRM and LKM are used to solve the particular solution of the non-homogeneous equation and the homogeneous solution of the modified Helmholtz equation, respectively.… More >

The load structure model takes into account the cracking process and distribution of the lining segment under the influence of local bias pressure and lining thickness. In addition, the influence of preset cracks and lining section form on the crack propagation of the concrete lining model is studied. Abstract A smooth bidirectional evolutionary structural optimization (SBESO), as a bidirectional version of SESO is proposed to solve the topological optimization of vibrating continuum structures for natural frequencies and dynamic compliance under the transient load. A weighted function is introduced to regulate the mass and stiffness matrix of an element, which has the inefficient element gradually removed from the design domain as if it were undergoing damage. Aiming at maximizing the natural frequency of a structure, the frequency optimization formulation is proposed using the SBESO technique. The effects of various weight functions including constant, linear and sine functions on structural optimization… More >

Abstract Link prediction, also known as Knowledge Graph Completion (KGC), is the common task in Knowledge Graphs (KGs) to predict missing connections between entities. Most existing methods focus on designing shallow, scalable models, which have less expressive than deep, multi-layer models. Furthermore, most operations like addition, matrix multiplications or factorization are handcrafted based on a few known relation patterns in several well-known datasets, such as FB15k, WN18, etc. However, due to the diversity and complex nature of real-world data distribution, it is inherently difficult to preset all latent patterns. To address this issue, we propose KGE-ANS, a novel knowledge graph embedding… More >

Many real-world phenomena, such as rumour spreading on social networks, the spread of infectious diseases, and the spread of the virus on the internet, may be modelled using information diffusion in networks. It is obviously impractical to monitor every node due to cost and overhead limits because there are too many nodes in the network, some of which may be unable or unwilling to send information about their state. Abstract Laplace transform is one of the powerful tools for solving differential equations in engineering and other science subjects. Using the Laplace transform for solving differential equations, however, sometimes leads to solutions in the Laplace domain that are not readily invertible to the real domain by analytical means. Thus, we need numerical inversion methods to convert the obtained solution from Laplace domain to a real domain. In this paper, we propose a numerical scheme based on Laplace transform and numerical inverse Laplace transform for the approximate solution of fractal-fractional differential equations with order . Abstract This study focuses on the dynamics of drug concentration in the blood. In general, the concentration level of a drug in the blood is evaluated by the mean of an ordinary and first-order differential equation. More precisely, it is solved through an initial value problem. We proposed a new modeling technique for studying drug concentration in blood dynamics. This technique is based on two fractional derivatives, namely, Caputo and Caputo-Fabrizio derivatives. We first provided comprehensive and detailed proof of the existence of at least one solution to the problem; we later proved the uniqueness of the existing solution. The proof… More >
