Summary

Nanocellulose derived from renewable resources has emerged as a versatile and sustainable building block for advanced materials. It´s unique properties as such mechanical strength, surface chemistry and biodegradability, converts this nanomaterial in a key enabler toward a circular bioeconomy.


The scope of this special issue is to highlight the advanced use of nanocellulose-based materials in sustainable applications.  The scope encompasses interdisciplinary approaches in the development of biodegradable polymers, nanocomposites, and eco-friendly solutions.


Bellow we describe the suggested themes:
- Scalable production and processing of nanocellulose
- Surface modification and functionalization strategies
- Nanocellulose-based biodegradable polymers and composites
- Applications in packaging, coatings, and biomedical devices
- Mechanical, barrier, and functional property enhancement
- Recycling, biodegradation, and end-of-life management of nanocellulose materials
- Safety, toxicology, and regulatory considerations
- Nanocellulose in the context of circular bioeconomy and sustainable development
