Summary

This Special Issue will focus on the comprehensive field of Urolithiasis, a condition that continues to pose significant clinical, technological, and public health challenges worldwide. While endoscopic interventions have revolutionized stone management, advances in imaging, prevention, medical therapy, and perioperative care are equally transforming the landscape. Despite substantial progress, optimizing treatment outcomes, reducing recurrence, and integrating innovation into routine clinical practice remain ongoing goals.

By bringing together multidisciplinary insights and cutting-edge research, this Special Issue aims to provide a state-of-the-art overview of current knowledge and future directions in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of urolithiasis.

The primary aim of this Special Issue is to gather high-quality original research, reviews, and expert perspectives that advance understanding of urolithiasis from clinical, translational, and technological perspectives. The scope encompasses diverse aspects including pathophysiology, prevention, diagnostics, and surgical management, with special emphasis on endoscopic and minimally invasive approaches. We particularly welcome submissions that explore innovations in surgical techniques, medical management, imaging, biomaterials, device development, and AI-assisted diagnostics. Contributions from urology, nephrology, radiology, anesthesiology, biomedical engineering, and basic science are highly encouraged.

Potential themes for the Special Issue include (but are not limited to):
· Endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques in stone management (flexible ureteroscopy, mini-/micro-PCNL, thulium laser lithotripsy, suction-assisted systems)
· Mechanisms of stone formation, recurrence, and metabolic control
· Imaging and intraoperative navigation for urolithiasis management
· Advances in perioperative care, anesthesia, and pain management
· Translational and experimental research in stone dissolution and prevention
· Novel devices and technologies: pressure sensors, irrigation control, robotic-assisted and AI-supported systems
· Comparative effectiveness and health-economic evaluations in stone disease treatment
· Education, training, and simulation in endourology and lithiasis management
· Future perspectives: precision medicine, digital health, and predictive analytics in stone disease
