Summary

Andrology is a branch of Urology which is becoming more and more relevant in the daily practice of urologists, with a growing number of patients looking for help for male reproductive and sexual health issues. This field is evolving quickly and covers several aspects, not only male infertility and erectile dysfunction, but also problems like hormonal imbalances, ejaculatory dysfunction, penile curvature, and even psychological and relational issues that involve both the individual and the couple as a whole.

Moreover, andrological surgery is also constantly growing and improving from a technological standpoint, with increasing demand and focus on both the functional and aesthetic outcomes for patients. As a result, it shares common interests not only with reconstructive urologic surgery but also with plastic surgery.

In this light, the goal of this Special Issue is to offer a wide and updated overview of what andrology means today, showing recent clinical and surgical advances, as well as multidisciplinary and holistic approaches that are more and more important in the management of these patients. The issue will also look toward the future of andrology, a field in continuous growth, with lots of opportunities for innovation and research.

We welcome original studies, reviews, case series, and commentaries from specialists around the world, to provide a useful and practical resource for all professionals dealing with andrological patients.

Abstract Background: Premature ejaculation (PE), the most common male sexual dysfunction worldwide, has a pathophysiology that is not fully understood and lacks reliable biomarkers. Recent studies suggest a potential role for polyamine metabolism in neuroregulation and sexual function. This study investigated the association between serum spermidine synthase (SRM) levels and acquired PE. Methods: In this prospective cross-sectional study conducted at Sirnak State Hospital between March and August 2024, 82 men (43 patients with acquired PE and 39 age-matched controls) were evaluated. Intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) was measured by stopwatch (patient and/or partner-assisted), metabolic parameters were… More >
